I love Tim Hopgood books, especially his drawings. I was really pleased to find this in my local library and will be purchasing to sit alongside wow said the owl.
This is a story about Walter who isn't sure how to make a web, he makes it using different shapes but they each get broken by the wind, at the end he uses lots his new skills to a male a magnificent web.  A great introduction to basic shapes-no rhombus or octagonnwill be found here! Great drawings and lovely story, children won't even realise that the are learning!

We've really enjoyed some of Tim Hopgood's other books (wow said the owl and hooray for hoppy) so we're pleased to see this one in our local library. Like the others this book has beautiful illustrations and an engaging storyline and excellent use of repeated phrases (this time 'whoosh'). This is a lovely way to introduce shapes. As a maths teacher I'm slightly disappointed by the inclusion of a diamond which is actually a rhombus, but the rest of the book makes up for it. A lovely book.

This is a great book for introducing basic shapes. The story is simple and repetitive to reinforce the language. Walter is very persistent! We started reading this to our son when he had limited language and now he likes to tell the story himself along with saying whoosh enthusiastically! It's definitely helped his shape identification no end.

This Is another excellent book from Tim Hopgood (Wow Said the Owl & Tip Tap Went the Crab). This time a loveable little spider is trying to make a web but the wind keeps blowing them away. How will he make a perfect web?
A fantastic book to teach shapes & perseverance. The illustrations are beautiful, the repetitive language is perfect for little ones & you'll fall in love with the loveable little spider. A definite for any preschoolers bookshelf & preschools & nurseries

Walter is a cute spider, but he is sad - he can't spin a web that is strong enough to survive.
As Walter tries - again and again - to spin a web (in beautifully illustrated pages), the reader learns all about shapes - triangles, squares, rectangles, diamonds and circles.  We also learn about the importance of persistence, and of trying over and over.
A fun and educational book, and we really enjoy it.

We enjoy reading 'tip tap went the crab' and 'wow said the owl' so when I saw this book in a bookshop I knew instantly my children would like it. It's a book about shapes and follows the trials of a spider called Walter who is trying to spin the perfect web. Simple shapes are explored which is especially suited to younger children. The illustrations are bold and my 1 year old likes to run her finger over the web formations on each page. A great little board book :)

Walter keeps trying to spin his web but each time it's not quite right and the wind blows it away. A great book to introduce basic shapes to young children in a fun and entertaining way. Lovely illustrations and my twins really empathise with poor Walter.
