'You've never heard of The Tales of Beedle the Bard?' said Ron incredulously. 'You're kidding, right?' (From Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) Published by the charity Lumos in association with Bloomsbury Publishing Plc, The Tales of Beedle the Bard is the first new book from J. K. Rowling since the publication of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The Tales of Beedle the Bard played a crucial role in assisting Harry, with his friends Ron and Hermione, to finally defeat Lord Voldemort. Fans will be thrilled to have this opportunity to read the tales in full. An exciting addition to the canon of Harry Potter, the tales reveal the wonderful versatility of the author, as she tackles with relish the structure and varying tones of a classic fairy tale. There are five tales: 'The Tale of the Three Brothers', recounted in Deathly Hallows, plus 'The Fountain of Fair Fortune', 'The Warlock's Hairy Heart', 'The Wizard and the Hopping Pot', and 'Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump'. Each has its own magical character and will bring delight, laughter and the thrill of mortal peril.
Translated from the original runes by Hermione Granger, the tales are introduced and illustrated by J. K. Rowling. Also included are notes by Professor Albus Dumbledore, which appear by kind permission of the Hogwarts Headmasters' Archive. Lumos is a charity founded by J. K. Rowling which aims to make life better for disadvantaged children. Registered Charity Number: 1112575.

I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to pick Beedle the Bard up and I only with I had read it sooner! 5 wizarding childrens stories (The Tale of Three Brothers, which is featured in the film) its a quick read book which i finished it within an hour.
After each story Dumbledore pens his own thoughts about each book, which I really enjoyed. I loved reading how he interpreted each story and at points had you rethinking how you read the story yourself, I loved the extra glimpse into this wonderful Wizards mind.
My favourite out of the 5 stories has to be The Fountain of Fair Fortune. The more muggle kind of story from the 5, it was the most heart warming and dare I say ‘normal’ one that I would probably read to my own children.
A must read for any Harry Potter fan, and a must for the collection!

This was exactly what I expected it to be. I loved the short fairy tale stories. I loved Dumbledore’s commentary even more. Rowling is so great at adding detail and background to everything without it being overwhelming. I thought the commentary she added was very thought out. It was nice to see how the stories reflected the wizarding culture. It was a lot like real fairy tales from the way they were described. Some changed and others didn’t.

As the commentary says, there are problems that magic cannot solve. Witches and wizards have to think of other ways to solve their problems. Sometimes, magic creates the problems and magic cannot end them. It was fun to see fairy tales, which we think of as magic, turned on their heads and made more magical and more fun.

I read the illustrated edition of this book (illustrated by Chris Riddell) and it is brilliant. The stories are excellent but the best bit is the notes by Albus Dumbledore that follow each story. The notes are really interesting and sometimes amusing and are brilliant for any Harry Potter fan. Great book.

I was bought this book for my Birthday, and so far it is brilliant. I love the harry potter books and love that this tells you all the stories that the wizards learn as children. I like the notes from Dumbledoor. some of them are funny. This is a great book for anyone who wants to expand their Harry Potter knowledge.

These are the fairy tales that the wizard kids grew up like I did with beauty and the beast and Snow White.  Although it turns out at least one of the stories, The tale of the three brothers is true as this is where the story of the deathly hallows comes from.

I liked this book and it was nice to be reading a book that a wizard would read.
