We found this book to be very entertaining, and full of drama! Extremely sweet concept of 2 scarecrows getting married (too cute!)
Of course it doesn't  exactly go according to plan at first... The usual brilliant rhymes and gorgeous illustrations you would expect from Donaldson and Scheffler.

My all time favourite Julia Donaldson book , this is an amazing story and the pictures are brilliant.

It was really sad book but the ending is just brilliant.

Both my kids have a copy each as they used to argue over it each night.

We regular bring it into nursery & school for book day.

Highly recommend this book.

A truly wonderful book. It is sweet, funny and is very exciting. My three year old twins love this book, as do I. Betty O'Barley and Harry O'Hay are very likeable love birds and the rakish replacement scarecrow is quite a character. The illustrations are a delight to behold. May there be many more collaborations between Donaldson and Scheffler.

Another excellent book by Julia donaldson, my children love to read her stories at bedtime and this one is Truly wondeartful. The magic of all the animals helping the wedding, the adventure mr scarecrow has to endure as with all Julia's books there is a worried part but the a happy ever after.

My daughter had listened to this book being read aloud by her Reception teacher and then a school friend very kindly bought her the hard back version as a birthday gift. She raved about how good it was before we'd even opened the cover and so I was really excited to see if it lived up to her breathless review! Happy to say it didn't disappoint - the tale is beyond sweet, with such delightful characters and a fantastic rhythmic pace.

My daughter loves talking about the preparations for the wedding and ticking off the various things on the scarecrows' wishlist. She also loves telling off the scoundrel of the piece and repeating the anti-smoking message to anyone who cares to listen.

At the end of the book, her favourite past time is to take off the slipcover and find all the items for the wedding on the illustrated poster hidden on the back.

Read this to my 4 year old twins and they absolutely love it.
It is a wonderful story about two scarecrows Betty O'Barley and Harry O'Hay, who decide to get married. Unfortunately Harry goes missing and the farmer replaces him with the rather naughty Reginald Rake. Great read, would certainly recommend for Julia Donaldson fans

This is a fabulous book!    The scarecrows - Betty O'Barley and Harry O'Hay - are loveable and loving.  The story follows Betty and Harry as they plan their wedding - as with most wedding planning some of it goes to plan and there is the occasional hiccup!  The book was a gift for our daughter's 2nd birthday.  It's quite long, and at first she couldn't sit still throughout, but now she asks for it a lot and doesn't move!  (It helps that she's a big fan of scarecrows!)

Another triumph by Donaldson and Scheffler!
Both Georgie and Leo love this story. They worried that Betty and Harry would not find each other again, and did not trust Reginald!
They loved the illustrations and hunting through the pages for the image of the Gruffalo!

Finally got round to getting this book for my daughter, when we did start reading both of her older brothers sneaked into her bedroom to listen too! So it was a big hit all round, the story is really lovely, and my daughter thinks it's amazing that scarecrows may come to life when humans are not around :)

We all really enjoyed the story, perfect for my 4 year old before bed.

Betty O'Barley and Harry O'Hay are planning to marry and have the best wedding yet..... but as any bride will tell you there's a long list of things that have to be gathered first. While Harry adventures beyond the farm to gather wedding flowers...... a new scarecrow moves in, and makes a move on Betty...but his smoking habit threatens Betty and the entire farm... will Harry return in time?. Lovely illustrations and charming rhymes as you'd expect....not an instant hit, but definitely grows on you.....but with perhaps a more "grown up" story than their other books.

I love the story, it's a very nice idea, the rhymes are very good and the illustrations by Scheffler are amazing. However my son didn't enjoy this book very much as I hoped. He didn't really understand the scarecrows getting married... And it took some readings to get him to want to listen and see the entire story. I think it's mainly just an age thing. But he mainly loves all the Donaldson books like Gruffalo, Gruffalo Child and Stick Man. I tried this when he was around 3 years and 3 months old. I will give this another try in a later stage again.

We were lucky enough to have this read to us by Axel Scheffler at a book event where he drew some of the illustrations. It's a lovely book about a scarecrow who just wants to get married but has to overcome some obstacles to do it.

This is a funny book and the children loved the suspense of whether the scarecrows would end up living happily ever after. The illustrations are as great as ever and I liked that this book was aimed at a slightly older audience than some of the other Julia Donaldson books.

I don't think anyone writes a story using fabulous rhymes like Julia Donaldson, there are repetitive section that once read to once or twice my children join in.
A lovely storey of how 2 scarecrows Betty O'Barley and Harry O'Hay plan to wed. Harry going off to find the perfect flowers for their wedding. When diaster strikes back on the farm.
