The Reading Stars Phonics Assessment Resource Pack is an essential resource to ensure that every student is succeeding in their reading.
The pack supports the reading books in the Ransom Reading Stars Phonics programme, with a running reading record for every one of the books (from Phases 2 to 5), along with comprehensive details on how to use running reading records, both to monitor children's individual progress and to ensure that they are reading books at the correct level of difficulty.
The pack also includes detailed information on the letters, sounds and high frequency words covered in each reading book, and photocopiable checklists of the letters and sounds and the high frequency words covered in each Phase of the Letters and Sounds programme.
Using this resource teachers can:
· work out how each child is progressing with their reading (including understanding the kinds of errors they are making and the extent to which they are self-correcting)
· ensure that every child is reading books that are suitably challenging for their reading level (i.e. not too easy and not too difficult)
· identify where (and what kind of) further help or practice is required for any child at any stage
· provide a written record of each child's progress
The Reading Stars Phonics Teaching Resource Pack supports the phonics reading books in the Ransom Reading Stars programme. It contains resources to support literacy teaching using the phonics reading books from Phase 1 to Phase 5 of Letters and Sounds.
The pack contains:
teacher's notes to support each book
detailed lesson plans, enabling teachers to deliver a structured literacy lesson for each phonics book
photocopiable flashcards containing all letters, sounds and high frequency words met in the Reading Stars Phonics reading books.
The pack enables teachers to support children's knowledge of their letters and sounds, prior to moving on to book bands for guided reading.
