Ruby comes from a special family: her mother is English and her father is from Sri Lanka. She doesn't know much about her mixed-race heritage, so she's about to go on a special adventure to learn. On her first trip to her father's homeland, Ruby discovers a country bursting with colour, sound and flavour. She'll learn about tuk tuks, coconuts, saris and meet and ride on her first ever elephant . This story will transport children on a wonderful adventure; teach them so much about animals, and introduce them to other cultures.

This is a lovely story about a little girl called Ruby who travels to her father's homeland of Sri Lanka. While there she meets Rani, a sixty year old elephant. She has a fantastic adventure. My daughter enjoyed this book tremendously. She cheered when she read that Ruby is of mixed race as my daughter is too. These books are so rare and so very special at explaining our differences in a positive way. A delightful read.

We really liked this book, the story is written beautifully and with different colours which we both liked. There is also a lovely little song which we both enjoyed singing. A lovely addition to our collection!

This is a lovely picture book about Ruby and a special trip to Sri Lanka where her Dad is from.  On this special holiday he shares an experience he had as a child a trip on an elephant.
My Son really enjoyed this story hearing about Ruby's adventure as this was something he has never experienced before but also learning a few facts about elephants along the way.
A lovely story to share together and discuss experiences.

My daughter likes to read the blurb of a book, so from reading that she was looking forward to hearing the story, as she liked that Ruby was going on holiday and that she makes friends with an elephant. My daughter didn't know anything about Sri Lanka, so we spoke a bit about there as well, and I showed her where it was on our earth globe. My daughter liked the colourful illustrations, and she liked that Ruby was mixed race, as she also is. It was nice to see and read about the different things they did and saw in Sri Lanka, that is different to what we do England.

My daughter enjoyed this book. She liked that the character was called Ruby as this is her name and the fact they went on Holiday to a country she hadn't really heard of before - Sir Lanka. The illustrations are beautiful and help bring the story to life. She loves Elephants too and enjoyed hearing about their adventures.

My 5-year-old son enjoyed this short story about Ruby's Sri Lankan adventure (a holiday with her father where she rides on an elephant). It was a simple story, but the illustrations really brought it to life. They were bright, colourful and realistic and you could imagine what it could be like to visit Sri Lanka. The storyline was a little disappointing as not a lot happened, and I think more description of what Ruby saw on her ride, could have made it a bit more exciting.

Bright colourful book. Rather short story-but boys love to hear about other countries and loved seeing how you can get on a ladder to climb on an elephants back!
