The Society of Distinguished Lemmings enjoy the finer things in life, and aim to be distinguished in everything they do. So when the lemmings meet a bear, they are faced with a great challenge: can they transform this wild animal into a member of their society?

A hilarious and quirky picture book about overcoming differences and being distinguished... but differently!

Lovely clear illustrations with plenty of detail to discuss and speech bubbles to give an extra dimension to the story.  We both enjoyed the storyline and it lead to discussion about acceptance of people who look or act differently to you.

This is a very quirky and fun book with a wonderful message. It is a busy story filled with many, many Lemmings who are both very distinguished and extremely chatty. The Society of Distinguished Lemmings even have their own set of 10 rules to help keep everyone in order. One day one of the Lemmings decides to venture above ground and comes face to face with a bear. The two start to play together and have fun and they soon become good friends. However when the rest of the Lemmings meet the bear they are very unsure about him. The bear is covered in leaves, cannot use a knife and fork and loves to play in the mud. The Lemmings question whether a bear could ever fit into their society. This book is lots of fun and has some amazingly detailed illustrations. There are also some wonderful characters to meet. The main story is a few sentences per page but there are lots of chatty Lemmings that have their own speech bubbles detailing their thoughts and conversations. We enjoyed the story and had great fun making up our own Lemming voices.

This quickly became one of our favourite bedtime stories. It has a lovely theme of teaching acceptance of others whilst at the same time being funny. This is cleverly written and beautifully illustrated.

I like the storyline of this book about overcoming differences and accepting one another. The illustrations are amazing too, showing incredible detail of the bear and the lemmings. Many pages include speech bubbles from the numerous lemmings which adds quirky and funny aspects to the story and characters. I think this is quite a unique feature of this book. It is a funny and sweet story. My three year old enjoys the story so I am sure other toddlers will too!

A lovely sentiment behind this story, about acceptance of others that are different and like doing different things in life.
Amusing detailed illustrations of the Lemmings, with great characters. Great vocabulary to introduce to young ones- distinguished, society, burrow, curious etc. Would be a great book with a group of children who could come up with their own creative utterings for the numerous lemmings.
My granddaughter loved the illustrations but definitely was a bit young at two years to appreciate it fully. Look forward to sharing it with her in a couple of years time.

Overall this was quite an amusing story and does a good job of encouraging children to be inclusive of others and also open to new ideas.

In places we found there to be a lot of dialogue in speech bubbles which was awkward to fit into alongside the story.

But both us adults enjoyed the humour of it.

Introduce young readers to lemmings and in this case their distinguished ways. These lemmings are chatty and rather rule abiding. One day one of the lemmings meets a bear and they become friends but what about the other lemmings? Can the bear use cutlery correctly? Can he remain clean and tidy? Is he fit for their society? Detailed illustrations and it's humorous ways  mwith speech bubbles aplenty make this a unique read. A great book to use when talking about overcoming differences.
