This is a very cute story about two very different friends. Hector and Hummingbird are very good friends and like to do lots of things together. One day Hector finds all of Hummingbirds's questions and conversations a bit much so decides he wants to go out on his own for some peace and quiet. Hummingbird is sad but lets his friend have some peace and some quiet although he is never too far away just in case. Will Hector enjoy all the peace and quiet or will he miss his friend too much? The book has lovely illustrations and very cute characters. The pages are often filled with large and expressive words when the language is meant to be louder and this great use of space on the page really involves the reader. A fantastic fun book about friendship.

Beautiful illustrations and such a lovely story of friendship and understanding how different we are yet those little quirks we have can also be endearing. We had great fun locating the hummingbird on the pages.

Hector and Hummingbird is a story about two friends; a hummingbird and a bear. Hummingbird is a chatterbox and Hector is a quiet type. The story is a beautiful insight into true friendship and is both funny and touching. The illustrations are particularly stylish and have a gorgeous colour to them. The illustrator, Nicholas John Frith, won the 'Klaus Flugge' prize for the book, and it's easy to see why.

A thin book. Lovely quality illustrations and print. Nice friendship lesson with some very endering characters. Nice short tale can be read in one sitting. Good bed time story for now and will be great for life lesson learning when she is a bit older, a great little book that will grow with Sophie.

Lovely story about friendships which can be used to highlight differences in people and how these make people unique. Great illustrations to go along with the story. A great bed time story!

We loved this book! The boy (who never stops talking himself) recognised himself in the ever chatty hummingbird and we had a good giggle about poor Hector trying to get some peace and quiet! The illustrations are great and the boy spent ages after we read the story going back through to spot all the different types of animals hiding in them. I can see this becoming a firm favourite in our house.

What a lovely story about too unlikely friends - hector the bear, and his little friend hummingbird. Hummingbird always copies everything that hector does, which eventually drives him a little crazy! So hector decides to go off on his own... fortunately there's a happy ending! My 2 and 4yr olds were completely captivated by the story, and felt very sad for hummingbird being left behind!

A likeable picture book, with bright and bold illustrations. We both enjoyed this story about friendship. Quite a useful book to explain to a young bouncy child how sometimes even friends need time away and a bit of peace and quiet. My son in particular enjoyed finding all the hidden animals in the jungle.

This was a lovely bedtime story about 2 friends who after spending a bit too much time together have a little niggle and need a little time apart to realise how much they love to be together.  The illustrations are lovely colours and there are plenty of jungle animals to spot on each page.
