I read this to my daughter this afternoon, it's a fun read. My daughter is 3 so some of the words she didn't know when I read them, for example knapsack. I told her it was a bag.
It's funny, bright and colourful with amazing illustrations. Has rhyming words which make the story fun and entertaining. My daughter found it funny when the mammoth ate a tree and shouted that mammoths don't eat ships when he ate a ship further into the story.
I like that it's a story about a friend helping his friend feel better. My favourite part was when the mammoth said all he needed from his friend was a big hug!
I think we will read this book often and enjoy it every time we do. Highly recommend it.

A lovely fun book with interesting colourful illustrations. My granddaughter is a little young for this at the moment but I am sure that she will love all the rhyming words. Lots of interesting words to enjoy- promenade, munched and knapsack. Would definitely recommend this book.

This is a fun book, mammoth is hungry and just wants to eat. He eats everything even a ship, but he’s still hungry. It takes a plan from his friend to make him realise that he’s not always hungry. A good book with fun illustrations that my little boy enjoyed.

This book is very colourful and the rhyming is good. My little boy wasn't interested in this book until about 21 months old. The book pages are a very big size so, when I started reading the book to him at 18 months old, I think the size of the book put him off as it was difficult for him to hold as we read. Also, the story is relatively long for an 18 month old so he would quickly lose interest. Around 21 months old, he started enjoying the story. He enjoyed turning the pages and loved learning new words from the pictures. An excellent book for a nearly-2-year old and above.

This is a funny book about an endlessly hungry mammoth who just keeps eating and eating - so much so that he even eats a ship! Fortunately he has a little Bug friend who knows that he just needs something to do to distract him from eating. The book is full of fun, beautiful pictures which add to the story. We've read it a few times now and we both love that it ends in a big hug. This is one we'll keep going back to for a bedtime story.

A funny story about a Mammoth who is so hungry he is literally vanishing! His friend, bug, comes up with a plan to distract him from his endless hunger and shows him that other things can make him happy. They end up having great fun. This is ultimately a story about loyalty and friendship and it ends with a hug. We liked the colourful illustrations and especially how the mammoth does appear to be vanishing (getting lighter and lighter in colour). The rhyming text also flows really well and it is a good story to read aloud.

Fabulous illustrations and some funny rhymes in this book about a very hungry mammoth and his friend Bug. Mammoth is trying to stop feeling hungry and Bug is desperately trying to help him, showing him that there are other things in life other than food that can make you happy. We giggled while we read it but my 4 year old said he didn't like the book and I'm kind of inclined to agree with him. The message is great but the changes in focus didn't flow very well (the rhymes and text do though) and it didn't feel like a very satisfying read. Shame because it is funny and the illustrations are lovely.
