"Maths 2000" is a maths scheme written to meet the requirements of the revised National Curriculum, the 5-14 Guidelines and the Northern Ireland Curriculum. It addresses the realities of the primary classroom through a carefully-structured course based around appealing pupils' books. The scheme offers: a structure based on separate number and topics strands; a structure in which using and applying mathematics and problem-solving approaches are fully integrated; material which students should find enjoyable; an easy-to-use teacher's book; practice and enrichment materials; and simple assessment and record-keeping formats. The series recognizes the teaching of number may be organized differently to that of other mathematical topics. Number is often taught continuously while other topics are addressed one at a time for periods of a week or two.
The separate number and topics strands of the series provide: differentiated teaching in number through ability grouping within the class, with children working at different stages through the planned progression; and topics work which addresses the needs of a whole class or group working together, some tasks are intended to be achievable at different levels. Both strands offer additional practice and enrichment materials to enable children's particular needs to be met. For R, Y1-Y2/P1-P2 classes, the core pupil materials are in workbook form, supported by A3 workcards. Acompanying practice and enrichment materials are presented as copymaster worksheets. This evaluation pack includes all the resource materials for the foundation level.
