Toby's sister and baby brother love their schools - they smell of paint and rainbows. Toby doesn't think he likes his new school at all - it smells of ogres and he's lonely. He looks and looks for friends but he can't find any anywhere. He finds an alien, a mermaid, a dinosaur expert and a pirate, but no friends! When his mum comes to pick him up he tells her the sad news - but if he didn't make any friends then who is in the playground waving at him..? Rebecca Elliott's charming first experiences books, featuring her son Toby encountering new situations, help children deal with new and unfamiliar circumstances. In Mr Super Poopy Pants, Toby got used to the idea of having a new baby brother; in Missing Jack he had to come to terms with the death of his pet cat. Now Rebecca is showing that going to school isn't quite as scary as you might think, using her unique sense of humour and style to create a warm and comforting picture book, which is quirky and funny at the same time.

Toby is starting school and he's a bit scared, but it doesn't take long before he meets others and has great adventures in the playground and classroom, it takes a while for Toby to realize he's made lots of new friends.   The pictures are really fun and imaginatative, we loved the fun playful adventures which make school a great fun place.   My only concern is that my daughter might be expecting astronauts, mermaids, Pirates and dinosaurs at her school!! Such a playful way to show how easy it is to make friends and not to fear.   Beautiful, fun and helpful book.

I liked the twist to the story starting as quite a negative feeling from the boy towards his new school thinking he didn't have friends, to him then loving his new school and realising he had lots of friends!

We received this book just before my son started full time school, I found it very helpful for him starting.

LThis was a perfect story for my little one starting school. It is a great story for any child starting something new and strange to them. My three year old loves it too and they both sit glued to it and laugh every time its read to them. The illustrations bring the book to life.I would highly recommend this lovely entertaining book.

A quirky book based on a child feeling negative towards starting a new school. Perfect subject for us as my son will be starting pre-school in September (which is bringing him a lot of mixed emotions of excitement and anxiety). I wasn't too keen on the book if I am honest, despite it having an imaginative take on the subject. But my son quite enjoyed it and was very interested in the illustrations - which are lovely and colourful. Not sure it will be a favourite that will be read over and over again though.
