An innovative new series that explores the science of children's everyday world by using a very simple story to introduce panels of linked information. As the child in the story experiences science first-hand so too does the reader. Each book contains a great deal of information but it is presented in such a simple way that it is easily accessible to a wide age range. The books are illustrated throughout with beautiful 'picture book' illustrations for the story and clear 'diagramatic' art for the panels. Each book ends with suggested activities, useful words, index and notes about the book. In Materials, the reader joins Alex as he prepares for a party and a barbecue, looking at all the materials he uses to make sure the event is a success. In Water, Ruth and her friend Shushi in a paddling pool where they make all sorts of discoveries about water, including how it moves and the uses we put it to.
