A gentle tale of three baby owls reassures young children that Mummy will always come home.

A gentle tale of three baby owls reassures young children that Mummy will always come home. Three baby owls, Sarah, Percy and Bill, wake up one night in their hole in a tree to find that their mother has gone. So they sit on a branch and wait... Darkness gathers and the owls grow anxious, wondering when their mother will return. But, at last, she does and they bounce up and down with joy, welcoming her home.

A truely heart-warming tale of three baby owls who wake one night to find that their mother is not in the nest with them. This captures magnificently the anxiety that young children feel when they are separated from their loved ones.  The writing is simple and heartfelt , and the pictures are charming. And the ending brings a rush of relief to both adult reader and small child alike. An immensely comforting book that can help children acknowledge and overcome their separation anxieties. A truely beautiful story.

Lovely pictures of owls.   Lovely story, with nice ending. Owl mommy went out to get food for the owl babies, but they didn't know when she was coming back and wanted their mommy. She did come back for them. I used this story with my son when going back to work, when he was a bit younger, to explain like the owl mommy I had to go out but would be back later.   The children enjoyed the story, more suitable for my son than my daughter who is 18months, but she liked looking at the owls.

This has been a favourite with me for a number of years, reading it often in my job within the childcare sector and now I read it regularly to my own children. It is beautifully illustrated and has incredibly touching undertones to help ease children's anxieties of a parent leaving and their unknowing of when they will return. The illustrations are bold against a mostly dark background and the characters are very relatable. Sarah, Percy and Bill are 3 baby owls who wake up in their nest to find their owl mother has gone. All are concerned, but Sarah provides gentle reassurance, Percy negates by suggesting something awful has happened (helpful) and poor little Bill just worries, repeatedly asking for his mummy.  My eldest completely empathises with Bill and his sad pleas for Mummy and it is a joy to see his face light up when Mummy and the baby owls are reunited. A heartwarming, simple tale that even my 17 month old becomes absorbed in. Highly recommend purchasing this sweet book.

As a nursery nurse I used to love reading this story to the children so as soon as I was expecting my daughter this was one of the first books I bought for her. I made it into a story sack with mummy owl and the 3 baby owls and it's one we've been enjoying as a whole family. My daughter loves getting her story sack out and retelling the story to herself telling mummy owl to "come back". I love how you Sarah protects her two brothers in reassuring them mummy will come back. Definitely one to enjoy together and good for adding extra elements to it to bring it to life.

A wonderful story about three baby owls Sarah, percy and Bill who wake up to find that their mother is gone from their nest.
Baby owl Bill keeps say "I want my mummy" and the other two owls comfort him and reassure him that mother owl will be back.
I love the way author wrote this story with different personality owls. Sarah is the wise one, Percy is the bravest and Bill who is the baby in the family .
My daughters loves this story and understand the love between a mother and her children.

What a sweet book! We often read Owl Babies before bed and it's a favourite story for my girls. They know it by heart now and still love hearing it.

The book would be easy enough for early readers to read independently but is also good for parents to read to children up to around 9.

It's a cute story with a feel good ending

A lovely story used as part of a topic on Light and Dark while learning about nocturnal animals. Lovely illustrations and an introduction to Owls. Great for drama and story retelling with puppets as there is plenty of speech and to give an introduction to speech bubbles.

I would also consider using this with children struggling to settle in school as it provides reassurance that mum comes back.

This magical book is an all time favourite.  It is such a powerful read with younger children, they all understand the strong mother and baby bonds and love it when Mum comes back to the next.  You can bring about the sense of foreboding, the fear and trembling and then the wonderful whoosh as Mum returns.  The visuals are strong in this book and it's very memorable for youngsters.

This is such a sweet book about 3 baby owls who wake up and can't find their mum. They fret and worry but their mum does come back. My little girl loves telling me this story over and over again. The illustrations are great.

This wonderful picture book is the story of three baby owls who wake up to find there Mum isn't there. They wait until she eventually returns and they are delighted to see her; not to mention reassured that she will come back when she's gone.

The illustrations are stunning; they may not be as bright and bold as other toddler books but they make up for it in sheer beauty and my little ones find them no-less engrossing.

The text is simple so it doesn't take very long to read, that combined with the night-time feel makes it perfect for a bedtime story.

It's the perfect story to comfort children who worry about parents coming back or experience separation anxiety; or a jumping off point to talk about the subject with any child really.

It's a simply gorgeous book with a wonderful story: I highly recommend it.

A beautiful book with stunning illustrations, that tell a heart warming story of t little owls left on their own. The children in my class loved joining in with the repetitve voice of Bill, the smallest owl. In the story, the owl babies work together to keep calm and safe until their Mother Owl returns.

What an absolute classic! This story just had to be revisited by us recently, it's basically an Autumn tradition the world over, right?!... Owl Babies is a lovely story about three owl siblings - Sarah, Percy and Bill who are waiting patiently for Mummy Owl to come home from her nighttime search for dinner. The illustrations are iconic in this book, depicting the animated little Bill as he goes from worried to ecstatic in the short time we get to know him, Percy who tries to keep calm and the protective big sister Sarah. It's definitely a happy book for us as we read it again and again!

Read this to my boys when they were babies and the 3 year old still requests it from time to time.  I think he likes the idea of the 3 fluffy looking owls all staying together even though they are all a little nervous of the dark while their Mum is away, then loves it when Mummy owl comes swooping back to look after them, as she always done.  A good introduction to being brave in the dark and looking out for each other as siblings!
