Why Don't Guinea Pigs Have Tails? was written as a poem for the author's two granddaughters, Lauren and Jessica and tragically inspired by the death of his daughter. Gerry Lane wanted to ensure that his granddaughters knew that they were loved and cherished by the family around them. The result is a simple story for children with a lesson of life for us all. Gerry's other daughter Jenny loved the poem and insisted on illustrating the various animals. What was once a simple poem with a message is now a wonderful picture book for kids to enjoy. 'This is a tale of envy and greed. Wishing for something you don't really need. Count all your blessings and special gifts too. You can be happy by just being you.'
