The Great War examines the background events, the battles and the results of one of the most significant conflicts of modern times. Beginning with the assassination at Sarajevo, the text then examines the reasons why this event developed into a wider military conflict. Students are drawn into the world of the soldiers and their commanders while also coming to understand the impact of the war upon the home fronts of both sides. The text concludes with a discussion of the reasons behind the Allied victory. Provides students with the skills to successfully answer the questions set in the NSW HSC. This is done through a comprehensive coverage of content along with an emphasis upon the development of historical skills: a wide range of written and visual primary and secondary sources is included and students are required to actively engage with these sources by asking questions about motive, reliability and usefulness. The text can also be used effectively with other syllabus both nationally and internationally.
