You know what it's like when your mum goes away on a business trip and Dad's in charge. She leaves a really, really long list of what he's got to do. And the most important thing is DON'T FORGET TO GET THE MILK. Unfortunately, Dad forgets. So the next morning, before breakfast, he has to go to the corner shop, and this is the story of why it takes him a very, very long time to get back.
Featuring: Professor Steg (a time-travelling dinosaur), some green globby things, the Queen of the Pirates, the famed jewel that is the Eye of Splod, some wumpires, and a perfectly normal but very important carton of milk.

The award-laden, bestselling Neil Gaiman, author of The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Stardust, Neverwhere, The Graveyard Book and Coraline, brings his biggest ever publishing year to a spectacular conclusion with this gloriously entertaining novel about time-travel, dinosaurs, milk and dads.

We thoroughly enjoyed this, a time travel book for kids. It feels like Neil Gaiman once got himself in a bit of bother with his kids and needed an excuse to get himself out of trouble. The illustrations were wonderful, something to look at on each page, the main character looking like the author really helps. If you like books with dinosaurs, pirates, aliens, human sacrifices and time travel, then this book is for you.

PS: If you like this and want another time travel book for kids then check out Terry: The Time Travelling Tortoise ;)

I loved the book because it was seriously funny.  There are lots of illustrations and they are amazingly funny and full of great details.  All the characters are really good but my favourite was the Sky Monster.  He is an inventor who invented the time machine that doesn't always work the way it should.  The book is part thriller and part comedy.  You can really escape into this book.  I laughed a lot.

We have piles of Neil Gaiman books at our house. My mum loves his books. She got Fortunately the Milk for my little sister, but it's one one of those books that you pick up to see what it's like, and end up reading it all! It's a really cool little adventure book that I read in one sitting.
Dad goes out to get some milk, and on his return has a fantastic tale to tell his children about the amazing characters he met and the adventures he had while fetching the milk. Chris Riddell has done some really cool illustrations in this book too.

I loved it and my sister loved it - a great book for all ages
