A feel-good picture book from the creative duo behind the best-selling Giraffes Can't Dance. Life is no fun for the chimps in Drabsville - the mayor demands that all their houses look the same and that no one should have a good time. But things take a more colourful turn when Chutney the chimpanzee arrives, carrying a tiny seed in a box... Follow the story of Chutney, as he and his beautiful tree help to spread colour and happiness throughout the town, in this positive story about caring for other people, and for the surrounding environment. Children will love joining in with Giles Andreae's bouncy, rhyming text and spotting all the humorous details in Guy Parker Rees's bright, bold illustrations.

A beautiful, rhyming story about spreading cheer and positivity to everyone :)
The story starts off in a place called Drabsville and everything looks the same - dark and grey and everyone was sad. Until one day chutney arrived with a seed to grow!!  The mayor did not want change and threw chutney in jail- a boy and girl decided to love and nature his seed - Love, hope, strength and happiness was soon spread and the town was renamed Happy town - We love how colourful and beautiful this story became and everyone was happy (The story reminded me a little of The Lorax)
Love the rhyming text, illustrations and story -Fantastic all round :)

This is one of my favourite children’s books ever! I’ve shared it with my own children,
nursery children and year 2/3
children and it has been well received by all. It’s an inspiring story about the way in which things/ people (or chimpanzees) can blossom when given the chance.

This is one of my favourite books to read with my two children, as it has such a positive message, and is fun, bright and colourful. Drabsville is a sad and miserable place until Chutney plants a seed that grows into a beautiful tree, inspiring the whole town to brighten itself up and celebrate life. It is told in rhyme and is a lovely, heartwarming story, and one that I don't mind reading over and over again!
