After dark, when all the sightseers have gone home to their beds, Wiltshire's enormous chalk horses have the chance to get a bit of much needed exercise. All the day through they keep the same pose, never varying by so much as a twitch of the tail. But on moonless nights, when the air is still, if you listen very carefully you may hear from afar the rhythmic clip-clop of giant hoofbeats.
