A beautiful picture book teaching children about friendship and sharing.

Floss says STOP, Floss says GO!

Floss says YES, Floss says NO!

Floss is the playground boss!

That is until a new boy named Peter moves into the house on the opposite side of the playground from Floss. When Peter decides he doesn't want to play along with Floss' rules, she learns that having friends can be much more fun than being the playground boss!

Corrinne Averiss' high-energy storytelling is perfectly paired with Sam Usher's classic Quentin Blake-esque artwork in this fun-packed, playground story, perfect for children aged 3 years and up. With a charmingly tenacious and relatable female character, this is the perfect book for anyone who loved Rebecca Patterson's My Big Shouting Day!

Corrinne Averiss is a debut author and her first picture book, A Dot in the Snow, is due to be published by OUP in October 2016. Corrinne has spent much of her life working in children's TV as a producer and director at companies including Ragdoll, CITV and CBeebies. She lives in Manchester with her husband and a charming cat, Alba.

Sam Usher has illustrated several books for children including Pippa Goodhart's What Will Danny Do Today? His first book, Can You See Sassoon?, was longlisted for the Kate Greenaway Award and shortlisted for the Red House Children's Book Award and the Waterstones Children's Book Prize. He is published by Templar, Little Tiger, Hodder, Jonathan Cape and OUP.

I read it to my daughter aged five and she really enjoyed it! The pictures are lovely and she liked the repetition and rhyme in there. We had some great discussions about playground games and what children can be like so it was great to help her see and understand different behaviours. Would recommend!

I was really excited about reading this book to my gorgeous but definitely bossy daughter. This book helped her to see herself from her friends' perspective and also planted an idea that she can change her behaviour, if she wants to (!). Great for teaching empathy and understanding friendship. A very relatable story with bright and airy illustrations.

A great rhyming story that helps with negotiating the playground and learning to make friends. We love Sam Usher's art so were excited to see that he had illustrated this book. Lots of things to talk about when it comes to making friends and thinking about how other people might feel.

Floss the Playground Boss is a book about a little girl who thinks she is in charge of the Playground - she bosses everyone around and decides who can play what. One Day a new boy starts at the school and decides that he doesnt want to be bossed around - he wants to do his own thing, and encourages Floss to join in too.  She soon realises that things are more fun when everyone is joining in together instead of bossing everyone around. My little boy liked discussing this book  - it mirrors typically some children at his school, both Floss and Peter type characters, and the book explains how playing together and joining in has a positive effect for all. The illustrations are bright and colourful and the book is just the right length. a great read!

This lovely book came at the right moment as on the week we received it our youngest started pre-school and she can be rather bossy at best of times   We read this together a few times and I think she has learned a few lessons from it and now knows how to behave and how not to, well we at least hope so.

This is a lovely book which explains the importance of equality in friendships. It follows Floss who has always been in charge of the local playground until a new boy (Peter) comes along and things soon change for the better. My children both really enjoyed it and the illustrations were lovely too.

TO BOSS OR NOT TO BOSS "It taught that you shouldn't always be the boss because otherwise no one else gets to choose and it's not fair for the rest of the children. It's fun not being boss sometimes. I liked the pictures because they are all colourful. Floss was all serious, Peter was all nice and generous. All the children in the playground should be the bosses. It's a teaching book and nice, I like reading it on my own and read to me." Kikki age 5

When we started the book we weren't sure it was going to be a good story but as we continued the story became clear and it was a good story to teach children that being the boss of other children isn't nice and that children won't want to play with you. My daughter liked it that at the end floss made friends and joined in playing with the other children.
