Ssh! Listen. What's that noise? What can we hear when we're really, really quiet? A toddler enjoys the range of sounds they hear as their busy day comes to an end, from the bustle and chat of dinner time, to the quiet hush of their father's voice at bedtime. The text and sensory clues to be found in this enchanting, inclusive picture book allow us to experience our home through its many noises. Auditory landmarks help all children to become familiar with daily routines, and can be particularly important to those who are blind or partially sighted.

This book showas so many sounds that are around us and I liked the fact that the book showed a lot more sounds than mentioned in the text.
The book is narrated by a little girl and all the different noises she is surrounded by.
This book can be simply read or ventured further into, talking of other sounds depending on age or ability of child. It can grow wit has the child.
I read it to an 18 month old, and he sat still for the whole book.

SSSHHHUSHY FUN! This is a great bedtime story but also fun during the day. One time where being quiet is fun as you make a game of listening for noises in the home like ticking, dripping, tapping, footsteps, toasters, beeps, birdsong... very sensory! It's also brilliant to take out, especially when you're waiting for your food to arrive!

Ssh! What can you hear?
Follow the young child in the book exploring what can be heard as bedtime approaches. "The scrubbing of my toothbrush and the gurgle of the water down the sink."
This is an enjoyable read with brilliant examples of onomatopoeia. It would be a great book to use when exploring early phonic work, encouraging the skill of listening and distinguishing sounds heard in the environment.
This is a brilliant inclusive book that both my girls, 1 and 3 year old have been enjoying. We love the illustrations and the lovely bond the child has with her dad.
A lovely library find.

I love this book and Lucy did as well. It gives lots of discussion opportunities and introduces new vocabulary with the sound noises. Lucy loved finding new noises after reading the book with me. It rally did focus on noises that we hadn't in the past.Great illustrations as well

Although there wasn't really a story to this book my daughter really enjoyed listening and was very interested in all of the different sound effects and pointing out which objects made all of the sounds. It was a nice calm read before bedtime and she liked the fact there was a daddy in the book. We enjoyed hearing the difference in noises from day and night and Ivy recognised it is noisy in the day and nice and quiet at bedtime. The pictures in the book are lovely and I think this would be fantastic for a child with sensory needs too.

My 9 month old and five year old just fall outside the age range of this.
My eldest still enjoyed it and it's certainly one I'll've breaking out as my youngest gets older.
The sound effects required for reading add an extra dimension and certainly make reading more fun.
It's well illustrated and an entertaining read.

My 2.5 year old really enjoyed me reading this to her - there isn't much dialogue so it is a good book for making it up as you go and adding in all the sounds that are on the page.
My daughter's favourite thing to say at the moment is 'what's that noise?' to every sound she hears, so this book was perfect for her, to get her to do the sounds as well.

I read this book to my to year old. Each page was visually clean and bright. Not a story as such but an exploration of the sounds around us. My son has great fun mimicking sounds and then pointing out the sounds the following days

This was an interesting book which allows you to read it as much depth as you want. It follows a child around their house and all the different noises that you might come across. We enjoyed reading it together and thinking of all the different sounds that we might not usually notice. It's a quiet book (hence the name!) which we found best to read during the day so that we could look around and see what things might be the source of noises.
