On a London street, four unlikely friends stand before the astonishingly ordinary-looking blue door of the Magic Circle . . .

Alex doesn't say much, and once jumped when handed a satsuma, but, wow, is he amazing with a deck of cards.
Zack is undoubtedly one of the best pickpockets in the country (but always puts things back).
Sophie once convinced her Brown Owl that all the other Brownies were jellyfish thanks to her nifty hypnosis skills - and then never returned.
Jonny - who is quite possibly the tallest boy in the universe - mixes science and magic with spectacular consequences (mostly explosions).

Join these young magicians as they step inside the world-famous conjuring club in an adventure that may or may not involve the search for a secret book, a set of impossible crimes and . . . oh, yes - a flock of very confused pigeons.

Intrigued? Confused? Well, you're just going to have to decide for yourself, AREN'T YOU?

The Young Magicians and the Thieves Almanac by Nick Mohamed

This book is about 4 children who try to graduate into the Magic Circle in London whilst trying to find the culprit of numerous goings on.

The main characters in this story are Zac, Sophie, Jonny and Alex who all specialize in different areas of the art of magic. (like Alex is great at card magic as he does nothing else but it) My favourite character is Jonny because 1. His grandfather is a amazing magician. 2. He has his own treehouse and 3. He is very tall.

I really enjoyed this book because it is a different kind of book than I would usually read. I also enjoyed this book because it had some small thing that I liked like when the group move scene, the illustrations change, corresponding with the scene eg. when the group move from magic circle HQ to Jonny's treehouse it doesn't have a picture of Euston station which is right outside. The book also has a great author, Nick Mohamed which some people as Mr Love in the first series of Hank Zipzer which is on CBBC for the UK. It is also a book on toppsta. The age rating is probably right for how long and difficult the book is.I also like the little * where the narrator comes in. The appendices are also cool. They are extra parts which have more information like the terms of the magic circle.

This book is about four young magicians attempting to be accepted into the junior division of the magic circle. However the renowned club is now all it turns out to be and with mysterious crimes happening all around them what will become of the magic squad?

This magical novel is fast paced and has plenty of pictures. I would recommend this book as its enchanting and interesting

This was the longest book my 8 year old son and I have read together and it really kept his attention, despite some complicated language and words. It was so unusual and exciting - we loved the references to real places in London, and the explanation of how some of the magic tricks worked. It was really easy to visualise the adventures that the gang got up to.

Ryland "loved the bit about them getting into Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen - it was so funny!"

Really hoping there will be a sequel!

A wonderful adventure following four young magicians, Zack, Sophie, Jonny and Alex as they try to foil criminals and save the magic circle. My son enjoyed this book and he enjoyed the conversational style of the author talling to the reader at points of the story. There are some really fab bits to this book, the big reveal (which i won't spoil), a lovely wee flip animation on the corners of the pages, a glossary, lovely illustrations and even a wee quiz. If you didn't know much about magic before, you will after reading this book! Great wee read.

The young magicians and the thieves almanac

I really liked the book the young magicians and the thieves almanac because I loved how the good characters in the story all work together to go on adventures. Along the way in your head you can think that something bad is going to happen to the young magicians as you close the chapter and go to bed but then when you get out of bed in the morning you'll be tempted to just open the book again and you would not be able to stop for about an hour. The best part about the book was the end because I liked how they were all friends even after the fall outs they had throughout the book. There was no parts of the book that I didn't like or would change. My copy was signed by the author! I loved that, I have two signed books now and they are my favourite. I would recommend this book to someone who has already read books by this author and illustrator because they'll love it. The pictures were really good and I didn't expect pictures because all of the chapter books I'm reading at the minute have only one picture at the end of a chapter and now I'm getting used to books without pictures. It is a nice surprise when I find pictures. I would love it if there was another book in the series and would definitely recommend this book to my friends. I like that the book was set in London, I like going to London for days out and like reading about it because it reminds me of when I go.

This book was full of adventure, which I liked. I've never read a book about magic or magicians so this was new to me, and it was enjoyable to read. I liked that the book was a good length, not too short, as sometimes when you read a good book you want it to be longer. The bonus was the authors signature in the front of the book, I thought that was really cool. I didn't get into the book straight away, but when I kept reading it did get better. I liked that it had little notes at the bottom of the pages explaining what things meant or giving more details about things. I liked the section at the back where it showed you how to do a card trick, and there was a quiz.

I really enjoyed this book, it contained some words that I didn't understand but after finding out what they meant I really wanted to read on. The book also contains real magic facts, which are really interesting.

The book is set around 4  young magicians who want to join the magic circle, they end up helping to stop crime!

Zach is my favourite character he is a funny pick pocket. There are lots of funny parts as well as adventure.

I really enjoyed this book because it is very funny and very, very clever. I enjoyed the writer's comments - random little footnotes - that 'tied up the loose ends': explaining in detail some of the story content.

It's about four young people who meet at a special club of magic. Suddenly, in the newspaper, they see that the Bank of England has been robbed. The story then becomes a daring adventure. It keeps you guessing and the end is really clever...I'd love to say more but I can't as a magician never reveals his secrets. And it would be a spoiler!

The characters were likeable. I think I could get on with Zack or Jonny. They were well described and seemed very real.

The book is generally just a great read. It's unique. People interested in magic will enjoy it as will anyone that likes Harry Potter.

I liked the story but spent a lot of time looking up words that I didn’t know the meaning of. Apart from that a good story.

This book was reviewed by Zuzanna aged 10.
The main characters are Alex, Zack, Jonny and Sophie.
My favourite character is Sophie because she can play around with peoples brains!
The illustrations are good and there is even a guide on how to do Houdini's 21-Card Trick and a quiz to find out which Young Magician you are most like. (I got mostly C's which means I'm most like Sophie.)
Although there are some good bits in the story, the part when they were at the train station was one of my favourites, I thought it was a bit boring.
