Once there was a lighthouse keeper called Mr. Grinling. At night
time he lived in a small white cottage perched high on the cliffs,
and in the daytime he rowed out to his lighthouse to clean and
polish the light.

Every day Mr Grinling tucks into delicious lunch, prepared by his
wife, Mrs Grinling. But Mr Grinling isn't the only one who enjoys
the tasty food, so Mrs Grinling has to think of a way to stop the
greedy seagulls from stealing the lighthouse keeper's lunch.

First published forty years ago, THE LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER'S LUNCH has
become a modern picture book classic and is loved by children everywhere.

It's lovely to read a book with your child that you remember reading as a child - and The Lighthouse Keeper's series is one such story. It brings back such happy memories of wanting to find out if the  Lighthouse keeper would get his lunch or be foiled by the pesky seagulls. My sons enjoy these books just as much as I did as a child.

Each day Mrs Grinling sends over a basket packed full of delicious lunch goodies to her husband, working in the lighthouse. From their little white cottage high on the cliffs, the lunch basket travels precariously by pulley and rope over the the lighthouse, but is raided by seagulls. So Mrs Grinling packs their cat Hamish in with the basket to protect the lunch... A very entertaining story, and Mr Grinling does get his lunch in the end!

A great story about perseverance and problem solving! We really enjoyed this story.

Fantastic story about Lighthouse keeper who lives with his wife in a cottage and every day his wife sends him his rather lavish lunch through cable wire sistem. One day some seagulls discover the lunch and eat the whole lot. Husband and wife team tries out numerous solutions to avoid seagulls eating the lighthouse keeper's lunch before finding a solution  that succeeds.
It's such a humorous story with fantastic illustrations.
