Children and adults alike will delight in this hilariously entertaining alternative version of fairytale events. Newspapers are packed with exciting and shocking stories, and with adverts and interviews of celebrities. 'The Fairytale Times' is no different. The Ugly Duckling is now the world's highest paid supermodel - we hear of his 'ugly past' in an exclusive interview. Little Red Riding Hood has researched clever tactics to keep wolves at bay, and how they can be fought off should they attack (apparently they're attracted to red and allergic to peanuts). An evil fairy loses her powers, while a young boy befriends a giant, and there is a hunt on for a missing gingerbread man. All these and many more articles ensure you know what's going on in the fairytale world - and what new products are available to buy - like turbo-powered carriages and dragon pet food.

I really do love this book because it does not feel like a book, it makes me feel grown up and reading a newspaper. The interviews and quotes in this are really good and is funny too.my favourite part has to be about the gingerbread man. They need to make  more books look like this as its easy to enjoy. (jacks words)

This book is great as it gives a completely different view on the traditional fairytales by setting them out in a newspaper format. It's a very fun book and is extremely unique. My daughter really enjoyed 'The Fairytale Times' and has said that she will be recommending it to all her friends.

As soon as I saw this, I wanted it, and it didn't disappoint.

Hot off the press, The Fairytale Times has the scoop on 15 of the most loved fairytales. This issue includes how the Little Bad Wolf became the Big Bad Wolf, an exclusive interview with Swan Webfoot on life before becoming a supermodel and current news stories about a Sleeping Beauty in a coma, and the search for the Princess who dropped her glass slipper at Prince Charming’s ball, to name a few.

The Fairytale Times is a fun, fresh take on traditional tales, in newspaper format. Brilliant fun for children to read by themselves and with friends, and lots of uses in the classroom; I've got pupils and teachers clamouring for this book!

I love this book! It is written as a collection of newspaper articles based on fairy tale stories. My daughter loved the different perspectives and looking at all the images / adverts etc. There is so much to discuss and look at on every page! There are also a range of articles based on lots of tales such as red riding hood, repunzal, Cinderella, gingerbread man, jack and the beanstalk and many more. I am also a teacher and think this would be an excellent resource for the classroom! Would definitely recommend.

I chose this book for Scarlett as I'm looking for different ways to engage her in reading. She LOVED this book the minute she laid hands on it! It's fantastic! I love the 'bite sized' articled in it so she was able to pick it up and put it down as she pleased. It's a  great book to encourage children that are making the conversion to free reader, it gives them the pictures and the interesting stories whilst challenging their reading ability with more complicated wording.
She recognized many of the fairy stories in the reports and found the articles and posters hilarious! It was also great to teach her all about newspapers. We talked about why stories were 'continued' from the front cover and we discussed headlines and what they were supposed to achieve. We even made up some funny headlines of our own.

We will most certainly be looking out for some more books in this series!

This book was incredible, as a teacher it can be adapted in so many ways to suit all abilities and ages. It is so interesting and great to see the stories from a different perspective. There are so many stories all in the form of newspaper articles and I recommend it to both children and teachers alike. The hunt for the missing gingerbread man was definitely my favourite! Cannot wait to continue using it in my classroom for a long time yet and promote the love of reading amongst the children.

Sixteen fairy tales are re-told as they have appeared had they been reported in the press... This book is presented as 'The Fairytale Times' with interviews, quotes and reports on classic fairytales. It is an interesting way of telling the stories, and (to be honest) better written and more engaging than many traditional fairy tale books, which can be quite... dull. Each story has a different angle to the classic versions, and this is a great way to look at the viewpoint of different characters and to encourage children to explore alternatives aspects of the stories. There are a few places where the writing slips back into how a normal story would be told (rather than how it would be presented in a newspaper), but I am being somewhat picky about that. Overall my children really enjoyed this book and the stories, and it one that I think that will be possible to read quite a few times overnight the coming years.

This book is different to anything we have read recently. Set out like a newspaper, it reports on the trials, tribulations and a little gossip in the world of fairy stories. It's a really fun look at traditional fairy tales. We especially loved the "adverts" and the pictures. We had so much to talk about while reading this book. Brilliant

I read it to Year Two Group aged 6 to 7
The Fairytale Times 9780956419682

I read this to a group of Year Two children who were fascinated by the cover and really enjoyed the format of classic fairy tales re-told as newspaper reports. They also enjoyed guessing the stories from the headlines on the back of the book. They particularly liked the idea of stories being continued inside but felt that page numbers would have been helpful to locate the pages.A good knowledge  of fairy stories is vital to understanding the reports and most children appreciated the humour and twists on the traditional tales.
The children did not particularly like the illustrations  as they found the colours rather dull and harsh.

This book would be really useful for a class writing newspaper reports and would be a welcome addition to any school library.
