Little Green Raincape is on her way to Rapunzel's party, deep in the wild woods. The way is long and dark, but Green is a smart girl. Smart enough to turn down apples offered by kindly old ladies, smart enough to turn down travel advice from helpful wolves, and above all, smart enough to solve a wealth of classic fairy tale problems - not least mend a lovelorn beast's broken heart. Once Upon a Wild Wood is a richly imagined story packed full of familiar fairy tale characters as you've never seen them before. Including Red Riding Hood, Thumbelina, Rapunzel, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, the three bears, the seven dwarfs and many more! A visual feast on every page, illustrated with warmth and humour and full of witty details to discover - this is Chris Riddell at his picture book best!

To be honest I suspect I enjoyed this book more than Lucas as I am a massive fan of Chris Riddell's illustrations.  Each page is just beautifully drawn.  The story is essentially a mash up of other popular fairy tales and we meet lots of familiar characters as we follow Little Green Rain Cape through the woods - as she makes her way to Rapunzel's party.
Although it's a picture book it's quite nuanced so perfectly suited to slightly older children who will enjoy it on a separate level to those who mostly like the pictures.
One to keep on the bookshelf for many years!

The children have a few books already from Chris Riddell so I knew they would love this! It's a fairytale picture book with a difference. Little green raincape is on her way through the wood to a party. On her journey she comes across characters from many familiar fairy tales. On the first reading, the children enjoyed working out all the different fairy tales featured in the story. My son loved the illustrations. They were very detailed. This book would make an ideal gift. One of treasure.

I really enjoyed this book.

This is not a book for 3-5 year olds even though it is a picture book.  It includes complex language and things only older children would understand, such as myself.

It tells the tale of Little Green Rain cape as she meets other fairytale characters such as Thumbelina and the three little pigs. In the mean time, the beast is sad that Belle had gone to see her family and had been gone for ages. I love the detailed illustrations as well. Chris Riddell is brilliant at both storytelling and interesting illustrations. For ages 9+

Chris Riddell is always just fabulous! I thought the story was a great twist on a classic fairy tale and the illustrations, wow,  perfection on every page. Plus my book was signed before I bought it which was a real treat!
