"Integrated English" is part of a course for students in secondary schools in Uganda. It is based on recent thinking about language teaching, adapting this thinking to needs specific in Uganda. The course is integrated in a number of different ways. Language and literature which are both regarded as important are integrated, as are English and other subjects which are taught through English. Listening, speaking, reading and writing are integrated and the elements of grammar, vocabulary and phonology (language sounds) are integrated into reading, listening or speech texts.
