Part of the "Mactracks" series for 9-15 year-old African readers, this book tells how everything seems fine when Father leaves home to collect Mother from the city. But the very next day, Pete, Edna, Patty and Bobo find they are all alone on the campus where they live. Even the college caretaker has gone away. During these "days of silence", the children are cut off from the world outside. There is no electricity and not much water. In the meantime, rebel soldiers are moving nearer the college. Where can four children hide safely - and for how long? Each title is graded according to the age of the reader and his/her language skills. Although intended to meet an educational need, these books are meant to povide pleasure and information. Some are factional and some are fictional, and they are all illustrated.
