This series has been developed to address specific outcomes and assessment criteria in the intermediate phase of the language, literacy and communication learning area. Outcomes from other learning areas are also achieved through integration of texts, activities and illustrations. This course encourages co-operative learning activities, in pairs and groups, that help develop social skills; provides numerous activities that stimulate the learner's prior knowledge, promote critical thinking, enhance problem-solving skills and draw from other learning areas; includes an accompanying reader with stories covering different genres; supports the teacher with numerous opportunities for continuous assessment, notes and assessment forms; includes programme organisers that give an indication of the outcomes to be achieved; provides suggestions on an outcomes-based approach to teaching in the teacher's guide.
