A deceptively simple format that encourages children to see things quite differently

I read it to My Class aged 6 to 7
This Is Not A Book 9780714871127
5 stars
This was so much more fun than your average board book.
It is only a board book to make it robust, it's suitable for older children.
I shared it with my class and then put it in our book corner. It has become a favourite during story-sharing time, possibly because of the bottom on one page!
It's great for discussion too, I've used it during speech and language sessions as a talking prompt.

What an interesting, fun book. I'm not sure who liked it more; my husband or daughter! There is so much to look at and talk about. My daughter thinks the laptop page is hilarious and sits 'typing' away on it.
It is a thick board book and rather robust. It isn't something my daughter sits down to read, she will see it as she passes by and has a flick through a few pages, laugh at it and then be on her way.

I read it to ProfessorA aged 7 aged 7 & to Captain S aged 3 aged 3

This 'not book' is an amazing interactive experience for children of all ages.  It is sure to inspire hours of conversation and imaginative play.

It is packed full of double-page illustrations which are designed to encourage children to touch, explore and play with the pages.  Do you fancy playing the piano, going camping, or perhaps you have some repairs to do?  Then this 'not a book' is the one for you.
I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone who owns, or knows, a small child.  Just goes to show that good books don't need words, just interesting and inspiring illustrations!

I read it to Preschool Class aged 3 to 4 & to Zebediah aged 5 aged 5

4 stars
When I shared this book with Zebediah my 5 yo son he was intrigued by the concepts on each page, he particularly liked the laptop, piano and tent.  The book sparked conversation and interest in how the book has been formed.  He was interested in the continuation of the images from the back cover to front cover of the book, with the boy looking through the postbox.
When I shared this book with a small group within my preschool class the children who are aged 3 and 4 had less creative and critical thinking to share.  They were captivated by the laptop page and would rather not have had to share this.  I appreciated the robust cardboard material of the book for longevity purposes!
With further exploration of the book I hope the children will discuss the concepts with adult interaction to get the most from the book.

I liked that this was different to anything we have at home. As there was no words, the pictures sparked discussion which was good. My daughter loved the laptop page, she would sit there pretending to type on it. She also liked the fridge page, pretending to eat the food from the page and telling me what the items were. My daughter enjoyed telling me about what was happening on each page. I liked it was a strong, sturdy board book, great for little hands and made to last. My daughter did ask where the words were, as she is used to a story, but she still enjoyed it.

Soph read it themselves aged 7 aged 7

This book has no words but it is amazing, you can use your imagination to make up stories. I like the computer and keyboard pages the best. Butterfly wings flap and hands clap when you move the pages and the bottom page looks like a bit like a moustache! I like the tent page too as you have to turn the book upside down to see it properly. My friends would like this, it's a fun book!

This is very hard to review, I think the concept of this book is to encourage children to look at things from a different angle, there is no story to this book, just some random illustrations of things to look at from different angles. The illustrations were good, but I am afraid that whatever the book sets out to achieve was totally missed by us!
