In this book, an in-depth insight into an Irish fifth class classroom is provided to reveal the behaviour, development, advancement and critical thinking of pupils as readers based on the research, theories and pedagogies of Frank Serafini. This work focuses on giving pupils a choice in what they read, allowing them ownership in their development as a reader. There is a major focus on building a classroom library of interesting books, and above all on modelling appropriate and authentic reading behaviours through the use of picture books. Pupils discover the ample rewards of literature and reading through constant read alouds and book talks. This book will help teachers implement Serafinis's Reading Workshop in their classroom and support pupils of all levels to succeed and develop as a reader. It is a practical book, enabling teachers to overcome current practices and provide situations to authentically teach reading to pupils.
