This was a really interesting book to share with my sons and it provided talking points that I wouldn't necessarily have known where to begin - if it were not for the short prompts from this book. We read a 'Freedom' a night and the spent a little time talking about that freedom. Each double page has one freedom and is complimented by some great illustrations by the UK Children's Laureate Chris Riddell.
My son took a short time to adjust to the fact that it wasn't a story, but he then got into the idea that each page gave you something to think about and debate. He then really started to enjoy it and to make up his own freedoms - I overheard him saying to his brother while playing with modelling clay "Everybody has the right not to have their playdough models squashed by somebody else". He had a point (!) and it was nice to hear that the book had given him a sense of his human rights in the world of a 7 year old!
I think it's one we will return to again as the boys knowledge and understanding of the world grows. I would recommend it for all ages, you can never be too young to understand your human rights.

This is an utterly charming little book, on what could be quite a dry subject, The Human Rights Act.  It illustrates the 16 freedoms we take for granted every day.  It is visually just beautiful, with Gorgeous line drawings including such fabulous animals as the lion, dog, fox and even Pegasus.  A super little book for reminding all ages of the basic freedoms we enjoy and how different our lives could be without this law that protects us all.

We read the most up to date hardback version of this book (2017). As a former lawyer, I am impressed at how effortlessly this little book conveys the importance of The Human Rights Act and explains how the special rules look after all of us, keeping us safe and free. Although aimed at children, this is a book to inspire generations and I cannot see how anyone, young or old, could fail to be moved by such poignant illustrations.

This special little book is undoubtedly my favourite release of the year so far (2017) and I can see it being read in homes and classrooms up and down the country.

This book is perfect for us as a talking point for Children's Rights.  My children go to a 'Rights Respecting School'.  This is an award that the school works toward year after year.  They have achieved the first level of this by having each class design a class charter and in the corridor there is lovely artwork that the children have designed which features the individual Rights.
The book is very short with a BIG message and features the 16 freedoms that keep us safe.  Each double page has a freedom eg 'Family' with a lovely line drawing and the opposite page has a clear definition of the freedom.    My children loved the dog representing Safety and the polar bear for Togetherness.
This book was sent to us as we had won copy in a Toppsta giveaway and included was a card from Amnesty International who publish this book.  My children had no idea who Amnesty International were so again it served as a springboard to discuss their work too.

I liked that this book told me facts that I didn't know about human rights and the Human Rights Act. I loved the pictures, they were beautiful and the animals looked very snugly and friendly. I feel very clever now that I know the rules that belong to us all

Read to children aged 10 & 12

We were very impressed by these little books sent by Amnesty International. My two children are very passionate about whats right and wrong and thought this book was very cute. This book has a way of bringing about the importance of human rights without being too deep, making this a fun and informative read for children and the illustrations are fabulous! My daughter did point out that this is not a book for very young children however, as some of the descriptions are a little too deep for children of a very young age.
