In the Jingle, jangle jungle, four friends encounter a very cranky bear. Moose, Lion and Zebra all think they know how to cheer him up, but it's plain, boring Sheep who has the answer. This is a hilarious picture book, with the over-riding message being: Don't underestimate the quiet ones! Sometime a little thought is all you need to solve a problem instead of rushing to immediate action.

This book is an absolute favourite with my class and has them howling with laughter on every reading. It's a classic animal fable in which the proud moose, zebra and lion fail to understand the cranky bear, but the humble sheep saves the day. Having said this, the story doesn't feel moralistic at all.  The book offers lots of opportunities for funny voices, and the bear can be as silly or as scary as you like. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone with a child of 3 - 6 to entertain.

This book has some real laugh out loud moments and my 5 year old son loves it.  A great tale about being all flash and fancy doesn't necessarily win the day and just listening and being compassionate sometimes is the best option.

We own the whole series of the bear books by Nick Bland. I like the moral of the cranky bear story, that being thoughtful, kind and compassionate saves the day
