If you ever visit Torquay, in Devon, make sure you keep an eye out for Seagy the Seagull. This beautifully illustrated book tells you some of the antics that our feathered friends get up to, and what they have to deal with from us humans. Follow Seagy from fledgling to motherhood and the lessons she learns. The story was an idea from two true incidents. The first where a seagull had become hooked on an abandoned line, although it did not happen in Torquay. The author did, however, have occasion to rescue a bird in such a plight while walking on the quay at Freemantle, Australia. The second incident occurred while the author was clearing a roof of seagull eggs while working for Torbay Hospital at their then Headlands Home. The author was requested to carry out the task and did, in fact, have to borrow a motorcycle helmet from a gardener.
