This was one of my favourites as a child so I have really enjoyed reading it to my children. Charlie loves seeing the animals build up in the ladies belly and loves that we sing this book at bedtime. Firm family favourite

Great book which tells the nursery rhyme of there was an old lady. The book itself is done in a way which keeps children interacting and interested. A fun book for all.

This was one of my own favourite books as a child and I love being able to share it now with my own children. The kids love seeing all the different animals building out in the old lady's belly and repeating the chanting rhyme with me.

I remembered this story from when i was little, so wanted to read it with my little boy. They story, pictures and use of rhyme is great. Only down point is that the writing is very small.

We have a hard back version of this book, and it has been much loves by both my children. The pictures are quite old fashioned, and both my children have loves feeling the shape of the hole as it gets bigger and bigger with each turn of the page. The poem is very silly and aooeala to out sense of humour, and the repetitive nature of the story is actually one we have all enjoyed - both children have shouted out loud as the story progress'. A lovely book to include in a childrens library.

I remember reading this book as a child and now reading it to my children.

This hardback book is bright and colourful although the illustrations now seem somewhat dated to me due to the age of the book, the children both enjoy it.

"There was an old lady who swallowed a fly, I don't know why she swallowed a fly, perhaps she'll die."

Reading this line now makes me think it isn't a particularly nice story but as a child I never thought about the meaning I just thought about the rhyming story.
As you move through the page the hole in the old lady's stomach gets bigger and bigger.

The children giggled along to the story as the old lady eats all these different creatures and animals and found it more and more unlikely that someone would do this!

Great illustrations - bright and cheerful for this strange rhyme! The cut out hole shows the animals the old lady eats clearly and my daughter liked counting them and naming them each time.

What I loved about the book is the cute out holes which were easy for my toddler to hold on.
The illustrations matched the rhyme which was fun to read.
I was also able to teach my child that animals come in varied sizes.
My baby was able to identify most of the animals in the book due to the lovely illustrations. Though the concept seems a little quirky to be read out to a toddler or if it is read out to a kid who asks you too many questions, its a fun read.
I felt good when I read out the book to her and she seemed to enjoy it.

I have fond memories of this book from own childhood and on reading it again with my daughter it's only now that I've realised how odd it is!  However my little girl really enjoys it and doesn't think there's anything odd about the storyline.

A book from my childhood I can now share with my children.
My daughter loved the colours and cut out. There was lots to point at and look for.
My oldest daughter knew the story and Sang it with me a lovely family book.
Only down fall for me was the writing was a bit too small. My five year old would have loved to have helped reading the book to her sister.

Classic book we all grew up with. Having been reminded of the rhyme by one of our local music classes (who sang the book alongside a puppet that matched the illustrations in this version of the book) - I bought it..... Our daughter aged 3 finds it funny, the swallowing a fly, a spider etc.... but as an adult it strikes me what a weird rhyme it is !! So its on our book shelf for nostalgia / if she does it at school.... but not one I'll bring out that often.
