In the early morning hours, Malcolm and Violet are woken by their
dad and told to pack up and be ready to leave in three minutes.
Their dad works for the United States Embassy in Vietnam and the
North Vietnamese Army, alongside Viet Cong guerrilla fighters,
have attacked. The Vietnam War isn’t over.
Malcolm and Violet scramble to pack their things and rush to the
embassy with their dad. There is an evacuation plan to get Americans
and their allies out of the country ― as long as your
name is on the official list. The twins and their dad are on the
list, but the siblings realize their best friend Bao isn’t.
Determined to help Bao and his family, Malcolm and Violet sneak
out of the embassy to find their friend and convince officials
to put his family on the list. But the streets have become a battleground,
and Malcolm and Violet don't have much time. If they don't
make it back to the embassy before the last helicopter leaves,
they'll be trapped behind enemy lines forever.
