On a wild, rocky shore not far from here, five dragon eggs are cracking. Mischief, fun and adventure are about to begin, but the wise old Dragon Master is always at hand to help the wayward dragons. The Dragons of Kilve is twelve delightful short stories for younger readers who will recognise that many of the dragons are not so different from themselves and their friends. The Dragons are all individual personalities, such as selfish Horace, wise Treasure (grounded by her lack of wings), the irritating, inquisitive but loveable Sparky and dear old deaf Fizzle with his fondness for chocolate biscuits! The Dragon Master, wrapped in an enchanted blue cloak of stars and wisdom of the ages provides guidance and comfort for the young dragons. There are monsters and adventures but all with happy endings where the dragons learn and grow. The Dragons of Kilve has become a much-loved children's classic over the years, first published in 1993 and revised for this third edition in 2011. It is a 'comfort book' that enables children to feel they can cope with life's worries, fears and joys.
Its unusual format, of twelve linked but separate short stories, enables reluctant readers to develop the confidence to tackle a whole book on their own. Perfect for reading aloud or for children to read themselves.
