The children at the village school have been asked to collect leaves from different trees during the summer holidays. At the beginning of next term the leaves will be mounted and displayed in the school hall. Tom and Lucy soon discover the great variety and beauty of the trees near their home, and they learn about the many creatures that depend on trees for food and shelter.
