Geomatics in Applied Geomorphology

Write a Review

As geologists, the authors have been fortunate to work with cutting-edge Geomatics technology, including Remote Sensing, GIS, GPS, and others. Their shared vision over the last four decades, and in the case of the senior author, even longer, has been to reveal the Quaternary geological history of various regions in the Indian Peninsula. This is a major branch of geology that investigates not only the external landscape architecture of the Earth, but also the records of Quaternary tectonics, riverine, coastal, aeolian, glacial, volcanic, and other geomorphic processes. As such, the authors have been motivated to study a range of topics, including riverine life histories, shoreline changes, and offshore land building phenomena, as well as recent earth movements and their relationship to Quaternary deltas. In addition to uncovering the geological history of the Quaternary period, the authors have also conducted extensive research on geomorphology with a focus on mapping and mitigating natural disasters such as seismotectonics, landslides, and the impact of tsunami surges and floods on coastal geomorphology.
