The Smartest Giant in Town
Author: Julia Donaldson Illustrator: Axel Scheffler
As with all Julia Donaldson books, this doesn't disappoint. With bright, fun illustrations, and a great repetitive rhyme throughout, makes it great for kids to try and join in.
We named the items of clothing through the book and found it funny, seeing George the giant in his pants!

The Highway Rat
Author: Julia Donaldson Illustrator: Axel Scheffler
As expected from a Julia Donaldson book, bright colourful illustrations and rhyme. A retelling of the highway robbers using animals, and using a good moral tale of greed doesn't pay in the end. Never disappointed with these books.

Tiddler
Author: Julia Donaldson Illustrator: Axel Scheffler
A bright and cheery, typically Julia Donaldson book. The repetition, almost like a chorus, makes it great for first readers. Originally bought this when first published when my youngest daughter was small, now reading to my grandson, and unlike some books, the content doesn't date.

The Bear and the Bees: ITV Daybreak winner
Author: Ella Richardson Illustrator: Lydia Monks
This is a story of being different, accepting and being OK to be you. I originally bought it when it was first published for my daughter, but she didn't really take to it.
Oscar likes the bees but I think he's a bit young to understand the concept. If it's read regularly as he gets older he may 'get' it, and hopefully learn the acceptance skill in life.

Duck in the Truck
Author: Jez Alborough
Have recently rediscovered this book, and had forgotten how lovely, bright and detailed the illustrations are (I have this book memorised, as it was my 12 year old favourite when she was small!)
It is a lovely little rhyming story of a duck who gets stuck and others come to his aid to help him (the duck maybe is lacking a few manners though)
Very catchy and great for though learning to read.
