Book pages Can't You Sleep, Little Bear?
Can't You Sleep, Little Bear?
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter picked this book from nursery. It is a lovely book about a bear who can't sleep because it is dark. It is a great book to read to little ones who may be scared of the dark, so ease their fears. I would say it would be for age 3 and older, due to the length, its not that short and there are a lot of words on each page. My daughter enjoyed it, but she found the illustrations a bit boring.

Book pages The Christmasaurus
The Christmasaurus
I read it to MicahW aged 7 & to AvaW aged 3
I read this to both my 3year old and my 7year old. We read it bit by bit, but  It was more suited for my eldest. My 3 year old did listen to the story, but it didn't hold her attention throughout the whole book. We really enjoy reading Christmas stories, and this was a new one for us so we couldn't wait to read it. It was a unique, original story which we all enjoyed. It was funny and imaginative and my son loved the adventure of the story the most and the great illustrations. I was really impressed by the book.Overall a great, magical, festive story. .

Book pages Bing Annual 2017
Bing Annual 2017
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My 3 year old daughter absolutely loved this. She is a Bing fan so as soon as she saw it she was excited. We have looked at it together numerous times. It is entertaining, with lots of different things to do. There are stories, sections where you can fill things out about yourself, crafts, games, even a smoothie recipe on the page about fruit. My daughter loved playing the game which you needed a dice and counters for and the page where Bing and his friends are in the shop and you have to find different objects on the page. Some sections, such as the bits where you have to write things, I had to do for my daughter, but slightly older children could do it themselves, but everything else my daughter did herself; drawings, games etc. Even if you aren't a Bing fan, this is a great annual with lots of fun things to do.

Book pages The Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter bought this book home from nursery. The story of the little mermaid who longs to live on land and be with the prince. My daughter chose it thinking it would be like the Disney film. It was pretty similar, but the mermaid had no name and it wasn't as enjoyable as the Disney version. The illustrations were boring for my daughter, didn't keep her attention. The story wasn't too long so she listened to it all, but it didn't have a happy ending like the Disney version

Book pages How to Train Your Dragon: Incomplete Book of Dragons
How to Train Your Dragon: Incomplete Book of Dragons
I read it to MicahW aged 7
I enjoy books about dragons so I was excited to read this one. There are tips on how to ride and train dragons and how to deal with dragon attacks, from Hiccup a dragon watcher boy. It was interesting and entertaining, and it got me imagining what it was like when the world was full of dragons. I didn't want to put it down, and I really liked the interesting illustrations, which were very eye catching.  It is packed full of fun information, and I really liked the book itself. The cover of the book with the dragon on the front stands out, the book is a good size, with thick pages and I liked the pull out map. A big thumbs up

Book pages Maths - Numbers Age 3-5
Maths - Numbers Age 3-5
I read it to AvaW aged 3
I have been using this with my 3year old that is in nursery and she has really enjoyed it. I liked that it supports the early years curriculum, and it features animals, which is great as my daughter loves animals. Each page has a different fact about animals, which my daughter enjoyed me telling to her. Each page showed the number and then has a bit where they can copy over the number, then space to do it themselves, and then it has animals for them to count, circle, colour in etc. My daughter enjoyed doing the dot to dot picture at the end. This was perfect for my daughters age and one she could do without any assistance.

Book pages KS1 Maths SATs Revision Guide: 2018 Tests
KS1 Maths SATs Revision Guide: 2018 Tests
I read it to MicahW aged 7
My son is 7 who used this workbook. He really enjoys maths and we have a few different maths workbooks at home. This is a revision guide and I liked that it supports the new curriculum as some workbooks don't, so I knew it coincided with what he does at school in maths. My son found it really early, it is for up to 7year olds but it didn't challenge my son in anyway, but he still enjoyed doing it. He did it independently, needed no assistance. All the answers are in the back. Each section such as division, telling the time, etc will explain how they have to do the working out/the method before they have to answer the questions. My son particularly liked the have a go sections on each page, which related to the area of maths they were focusing on. Such as adding and subtracting it says when you go shopping, add up the prices of the items and workout how much change you will get.

Book pages Don't Call Me Sweet!
Don't Call Me Sweet!
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter got this book from nursery. Its about a little monster who doesn't want to be called sweet. He is scary, stinky and messy. At the end though he is picked up by an ogre who think he looks like a nice treat as he likes to eat little monsters who are scary, stinky and messy. The little monster tells him he is a nice little monster, who is in fact very sweet. Its a funny, fun story that my daughter really enjoyed. She liked the colourful illustrations.

Book pages Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Bunny?
Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Bunny?
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter had this book from nursery. She likes books with animals and this one features bunny's. There is one big bad bully bunny who keeps taking the carrots off the other bunny and calling them names. My daughter didn't like that he was being mean to the other rabbits. In the end the bunnies are together and confront the bad bunny and stand up to him and he never bothers them again. I spoke to my daughter about always being nice to people and that people don't like bullies. She wasn't that Keen on the story as she didn't think it was a nice story, so she won't want t to listen to it again

Book pages The Princess and the Giant
The Princess and the Giant
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter chose this from the library. The front cover reminded her of Jack and the beanstalk. It's quite a long book, so some little ones may not listen to the while thing, but my daughter did. She enjoys this story of Sophie the brave princess, who goes to visit the giant, To Help him fall asleep. So he would stop making noise at bedtime and everyone in the kingdom could have a peaceful sleep. My daughter enjoyed the colourful illustrations, and the nice ending.

Book pages Fox Fables in Punjabi and English
Fox Fables in Punjabi and English
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My 3year old chose this from the library. There are 2 fables in the book, 1 from Aesop and 1 from the Chinese culture. It had English and Punjabi writing inside. My daughter noticed the Punjabi and asked about it, so we spoke about other languages and how it's not written the same. The fables were short, with writing activities you could do. This book was actually in the section of the library for my daughters age group, but it would be better for an older child. my daughter did like the pictures and the animals in the fables.

Book pages Missing Chick
Missing Chick
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter chose this book from the library. Mother Hen has lost a chick. The neighbours, police and firefighters can't find him. Bit it seems they have all missed a vital clue that would help them find the chick. Its not too long, so great length, and my daughter enjoyed guessing places that the chick might be.

Book pages George's Dragon Goes to School
George's Dragon Goes to School
I read it to MicahW aged 7 & to AvaW aged 3
My 3year old for this out from the library, but when I read it to her my 7year old wanted to listen to the story, as we have George's dragon book, and he enjoyed it. He read it himself afterwards as well. In this story it's pet week, so George takes his dragon Sparky to school, and they were both excited. Sparky makes a mess if the classroom as he's so big, he breaks things and burns things and sets off the fire alarm. No one is happy. George's class have a swimming lesson, but it gets cancelled as the water isn't heated. Sparky saves the day by heating the pool with his fiery breath, and even joins them in the pool. My 2 children loved this book, they thought it was funny. The illustrations are great. A great book for all ages.

Book pages Rosie's Walk
Rosie's Walk
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My 3year old chose this from the library. I enjoyed reading this with her, as I remembered reading this when I was a child. It's a simple book, would be great for those who have just learnt to read. Rosie the hen goes for a walk,  and she isn't aware that a fox is following her. But the fox is really clumsy, and Rosie gets home in time for dinner, completely bone the wiser. My daughter thought that all the things that happened to the fox whilst following Rosie, were funny.

Book pages Monty and Milli: The Totally Amazing Magic Trick
Monty and Milli: The Totally Amazing Magic Trick
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter brought this home from nursery. This book is about 2 mice, Monty and his little sister Milli. Whatever Monty does, Milli does too, but after she interferes with his magic tricks, Monty had enough and wishes she would turn into a toad and disappear. When he can't find Milli he thinks his magic has worked, and he gets sad. It's a lovely story about siblings. My daughter has an older brother so she could relate to the story, and we talked about how sometimes the older sibling likes time to themselves.

Book pages Ladybird Tales: The Little Red Hen
Ladybird Tales: The Little Red Hen
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My 3 year old got this book from nursery, i had never read it my daughter before. It is based on a traditional folk tale. The little red hen planted some corn, none if her animal friends would help. When it grew none of them would help get cut it or take it to the mill. The red hen went home with some flour, none of her friends would help her make bread with it, but they all wanted to eat it when it was done. Red hen ate the bread all to herself. We spoke about the red hen not sharing as none of her friends had wanted To Help her when she had asked them. It was easy to read, lovely illustrations.

Book pages Ladybird Tales: The Enormous Turnip
Ladybird Tales: The Enormous Turnip
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter got this book from nursery. I remember reading this when I was small, but it was new to my daughter, as we had never read it before. A man planted some turnip seeds, he looked after them. The one turnip grew very big, but he couldn't pull it out Of The ground. He had help of lots of people and animals to try and pull it out. They were pulling hard, and it came out and they all fell over, which my daughter thought was very funny. They then ate turnip for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was a short story, with lovely illustrations, but my daughter didn't want to listen to the story more than once, like she does with most books.

Oxford Reading Tree TreeTops Fiction: Level 13 More Pack B: The True Diary of Carly Ann Potter
MicahW read it aged 7
I was given this book from school. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it as it Was The diary of a girl. It was very easy to read, no hard words, and it wasnt a long book. It's set out like A diary, bits written under dates. I would say it's aimed at girls. I liked the little drawings and the bits of writing that were in the main characters handwriting.
