Book pages English - Grammar and Punctuation Age 5-7
English - Grammar and Punctuation Age 5-7
I read it to MicahW aged 7
My son really enjoys his workbooks He likes to do them independently, and ask me if there is anything he is unsure of. He did this one independently, and there wasn't anything he wasn't unsure of in the book. He really enjoyed the bits where it wasn't just writing sentences, such as the word search, crossword and matching words where you had to draw lines to the words. It had  a nice balance of activities that weren't just writing, mixed in with the writing sentences. It gave you the answers at the back which is always a good thing, there was a quick test at the end which my son liked and and he liked the log book at  the end, where you ticked off an area and coloured in a star when you had completed it. My son is 7 and even though the book said it was for 5-7 year olds he found it really easy. We have a few other workbooks and they fall in the same age range and they were a bit more advanced, but it was an enjoyable activity book.

Book pages Charlie and Lola: I Am Too Absolutely Small for School Board Book
Charlie and Lola: I Am Too Absolutely Small for School Board Book
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter loves charlie and lola books, so I knew she would be a big fan of this. She is going to nursery school so thought this would be great for her, as in this book Lola is starting big school and she is nervous about going. This would be a great book for those starting nursery or school. It is a lovely book and its entertaining, but I think it could have the potential to still worry a child if they tend to worry, as it lists things in the book they might worry about, which may not have occurred to them before, but it does put a positive spin on everything.

Book pages Maths - Problem Solving & Reasoning Age 7-9
Maths - Problem Solving & Reasoning Age 7-9
I read it to MicahW aged 7
My son enjoys his work books and he particularly like maths. He is 7 but this was for 7-9years which was good as it would challenge him, not just being aimed at 7year olds. I liked that it supports the new curriculum, and some workbook still don't. My son worked through it independently, asking for assistance only when he wasn't sure of how to do something. He liked all the animal facts that were given to him throughout the activity book. It started off easy then got harder as he made his way through, but he liked that, as it was challenging. The answers were given at the back, there was also a quick test at the back, and a logbook where you tick off and colour in the stars of the areas you had completed. He enjoyed the roman numerals section, where it told you what numbers the symbols represented, then you had to work out sums. The hardest area for him was converting measurements. He learnt new things which was great and he enjoyed doing it.

Book pages Who am I? Puppies and Kittens
Who am I? Puppies and Kittens
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter picked this book from the library. She loves animals, so she saw this and wanted it. On each page it would give you clues about who the animal is, then there is a little cut out showing a tiny bit of the cutout. It is very simple and fun, but think its aimed at younger than my daughter probably up to 2years. The pictures were bright and colourful

Charlie and Lola: Snow is my Favourite and my Best
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter realy enjoys charlie and lola, and we have read a few other charlie and lola books, so she saw this and wanted it straight away. This story is all about snow, they make snow angels, go sledging and build snowmen. The next day the snow is gone so Charlie and Lola just imagine that snows everywhere and they go to the arctic. My daughter enjoyed it, and she spoke about what she likes to do in the snow

Book pages Sleeping Beauty: A Mid-century Fairy Tale
Sleeping Beauty: A Mid-century Fairy Tale
I read it to AvaW aged 3
We enjoyed this twist on the story of sleeping beauty. I think it is aimed more at 4years onwards though, but my daughter sat through the story and enjoyed the illustrations, and she liked that the girl Zoe found sleeping beauty and woke her up.

Book pages Sheepy and the Riddle of the Occurrence
Sheepy and the Riddle of the Occurrence
MicahW read it aged 7
Even though it was a small book, there was a lot of text, and some big words. As there was so much reading to do it, I think it could have done with more illustrations to break it up a bit. It wasn't the easiest book to get into, and it wasn't as enjoyable as I thought it would, but it was still nice to read. It was full of adventure which I like and  liked the charcater Sox the most.

Book pages How to Babysit a Grandad
How to Babysit a Grandad
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter loves this book, it makes her laugh. A little boy's parents go out and his Granddad comes over, and its from the perspective of the little boy and him babysitting his Granddad. My daughter enjoys listening to this story, and she will say from the book what she does with her Granddad. It is a fun book, with fun, detailed illustration which my daughter likes.

Book pages Starting School
Starting School
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My friend gave me this to read with my daughter who is starting nursery school soon. Its a great book for preparing those starting nursery or school. Its quite simple, and I really liked how it shows things which they might be worrying about when starting, aren't really a problem. The illustrations are great and really detailed. The book deals with a lot of activities that they will do at nursery or school, which is good, and it gave us lots of good talking points. I think everyone starting nursery or school should read this.I have read a few books about starting nursery or school with my daughter, and this one is my favourite.

Book pages Peppa Pig: Peppa's Super Noisy Sound Book
Peppa Pig: Peppa's Super Noisy Sound Book
I read it to AvaW aged 3
A great interactive book for Peppa Pig fans. It follows Peppa and Goerge's day with their friends. The sounds are very clear and my daughter loves getting involved in the story pressing the buttons. Its the perfect length for little ones, the illustrations are bold and colourful, and I like that the pictures in the book show my daughter when to press the sounds. Only slight criticism was the buttons, if you dont press them in a certain way they wont make a sound.

Book pages Monkey Puzzle Big Book
Monkey Puzzle Big Book
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter really enjoys this book. The little monkey has lost his mommy, and the butterfly is trying to help find her, but the butterfly misunderstands the monkeys descriptions and leads the monkey to the wrong animals. In the end they find his dad who takes him back to his mommy. My daughter loves guessing on each page whether it will be the monkey mommy or a different animal. It is funny and I enjoy the rhyming throughout. We like to read this at bedtime, and I would definitely recommend it.

Disney Movie Collection: Frozen: A Special Disney Storybook Series
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My 3year old loves Frozen, so when we saw this in the supermarket she wanted it right away. It is basically the film but in book version. It is quite long, but because my daughter loves Frozen she sits through the story no problem. The illustrations are from the movie itself, which my daughter enjoys looking at. A lovely book for frozen fans.

Book pages The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark
The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark
I read it to AvaW aged 3
This is a lovely story that I enjoy reading to Ava. I saw it in the bookshop and got it mainly for my daughter, as at night she doesn't like the lights completely off and we have to leave the hallway light on or she gets scared. Owl doesn't like the dark, and his mom sends him out to ask about the dark. He finds out about things that happen in the dark that are fun, such as fireworks and father Christmas coming. It has funny bits It is a great book to read at bedtime, a very sweet story.

Book pages The Adventures of Captain Underpants
The Adventures of Captain Underpants
MicahW read it aged 7
George and Harold hypnotise their headteacher, creating the greatest superhero their school has ever had. It was easy to read, silly and funny, especially the pranks. The chapters were short and the illustrations were funny. I really liked George and Harry, the best friends,They are naughty but funny. It is a laugh out loud book and I want to read the other books in the series.

Book pages Animal Surprises
Animal Surprises
I read it to AvaW aged 3
This book features lots of animals, which I knew my daughter would enjoy as she loves animals. The illustrations were great and very detailed, and I really enjoyed the rhymes. It is a fun book, which showcases animals/minibeasts from worms to tigers. My daughter enjoyed telling ME what everything was, that she recognised, and she even learnt some new animals. She loved the added puzzle thrown in at the end.

Book pages Lionheart
Lionheart
I read it to AvaW aged 3
It is nearly bedtime, when Richard hears something coming from his bedroom that may be a monster. He gets scared and runs off through the forest, and ends up in a magical jungle. With the help of a stuffed Lion, Lionheart, Richard finds the courage needed to face his fears.  It is a lovely story that is beautifully illustrated, bravery and facing fears being the focus of the story. It also mentions various animals, mainly from Africa, so helps with learning and recognising animals.

Book pages Rabbit's Nap
Rabbit's Nap
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter loves lift the flap books, and she has had this book out from the library a few times. We also have a couple of the other books from this series. We enjoy Julia Donaldson books, and this one is no different. This one is aimed at younger children, up to 4years. Rabbit can't have her nap, as her friends outside are being noisy. My daughter loves getting involved and lifting the flaps to see which animal is under there. We like the rhyming and the illustrations are lovely.

Book pages Never Tickle a Tiger
Never Tickle a Tiger
I read it to AvaW aged 3
Izzy can't help but fidget all the time, she is unable to sit still. She goes on a school trip to the zoo, and her teacher tells her not to fidget and never tickle a tiger, but she doesn't listen. My daughter loved the colourful illustrations, she spent a while looking at each page and taking in the detail. There are 2 pages in the book that fold out, which my daughter liked as it was like a big, long picture. Izzy of course didn't listen to her teacher, and tickled a tiger, which ended up causing pandemonium in the zoo. It was a funny story which my daughter enjoyed. It has various animals in the book, which my daughter enjoyed telling me their names.

MicahW read it aged 7
I really enjoy Horrid Henry, I have some of the other books which I liked. It was easy to read on my own, and not a very long book, with short chapters and lots of colourful pictures. It was a very funny book; Henry has a birthday party, which of course he causes mayhem at. It is a book that both boys and girls will like

Little Beauty
I read it to AvaW aged 3
My daughter love books with animals in. She saw the front cover and wanted to get this out of the library. We have a few Anthony Browne books at home which we really like. It was a lovely book about a gorilla that could do do sign language, but he was sad as he wanted a friend. The zoo keepers got him a cat called Beauty which he loved. They did everything together, and beauty the cat ended up doing sign language too. My daughter thought it was funny that the cat and gorilla did sign language. My daughter actually knows some sign language so this got her talking about sign language. She liked that the gorilla and cat were the best of friends

Topsy and Tim: Learn to Swim
I read it to AvaW aged 3
I was given this by a friend as she knew my daughter Loves Topsy and Tim. This book is all about Topsy and Tim going swimming, my daughter could relate as she loves swimming and she is starting lessons soon, where she will be in the water without me. She really enjoys this book, I have read it to her so many times, she doesn't get bored of it. Its a lovely book, and my daughter enjoyed the pictures. It was a nice read, and would be a great book to read to little ones who may be going swimming for the first time or having lessons for the first time.

Book pages The Elephant and the Bad Baby
The Elephant and the Bad Baby
I read it to AvaW aged 3
A great book for teaching little ones how to be polite and use manners. The elephant and the baby go out, an help themselves to all these different foods from peoples shops, and the shop keepers end up chasing them down the street. In the end though, the baby learns to say please. It is simple, with simple language, and it is a funny book. There is repetitive language, but this is good for little ones, and my daughter would say the words with me. We do both enjoy this book, but poor baby gets made out to be the bad one when its the elephant that has been taking the items without asking. Good moral at the end.

Book pages Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves
Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves
MicahW read it aged 7
I was quite interested to read this book, as I hadn't ever read or heard the story before. From reading the blurb; Ali comes across the password for where the thieves had hidden their treasure, it sounded very interesting. It was easy to read independently, only words I needed some help with were how to pronounce some of the names in the book. I liked that the font was quite big. There were a few black and white illustrations. I say this book would appeal more to boys, as there is some violence in it, people getting killed, which girls may not like.

Evolve or Die
MicahW read it aged 7
I like the horrible science books, so saw this one in the library I hadn't read. There are chapters all looking at different things, so you could read it in order or skip to the chapters you are most interested in. There is quite a lot of text, but there are little black and white illustrations throughout the book as well. I found it interesting and learnt new information. I particularly liked the chapters on fossils and dinosaurs.

Book pages Amazing Grace
Amazing Grace
I read it to AvaW aged 3
I love this book, it's a lovely story for little ones, but probably better for older children who can understand it more; that no matter what your race or gender, you can do anything you want to do, no matter what other people say. Grace loves stories and acting them out. Her school is doing the play Peter Pan, Grace really wants the leading role but  is told by by one of the children she can't be Peter Pan as she's not white or a boy. Grace is a lovely character who is really likeable, she is fun and very imaginative, There is a lot of detail in the illustrations. It is nice that Grace gets to play Peter Pan, and I am going to be buying my own copy of this for my children

Book pages Calum's New Team
Calum's New Team
MicahW read it aged 7
Calum is football mad. He moves to a new to a new town and a new school, and gets into the football team there. I t was an enjoyable book, easy to read independently. It wasn't too long so took quite quickly to read and the chapters were a good length. There were also black and white illustrations throughout the book. Football is one of the main areas, but it also covered things like bullying, friendship and teamwork, so it seemed very real and I think a lot of children can relate to a lot of things in the book. Calum us such a nice character so you like him. I liked the font wasn't small, and I think it is a book that boys will prefer. There are other books in the series, and I have asked my mom to get me one, and the added bonus was the trading cards at the back of the book which you can collect.

Lulu Loves the Library
I read it to AvaW aged 3
This a lovely book about a little girl called Lulu. It follows her visit to the library with her mother. My daughter can relate to this book as we go to the library all the time for her to choose books. The illustrations are really nice, and its a pleasant story. After reading this, my daughter asked if she could look after her library card and give it to the librarian when we go. It is a nice positive portrayal of libraries, and it would be a nice book to share with a little one before their first nursery visit.

My First Animal Signs: BSL (British Sign Language)
I read it to AvaW aged 3
I pointed this out to my daughter, as I thought she would enjoy it as she went to a learn and sign group where British Sign language was incorporated into singing and stories. This would be a great book for introducing signs to little ones, but also great for those that already know the signs. In the book a baby or child is shown doing the signs for different animals, and it also gives instructions on how to do it. It covered lots of animals- pets, zoo animals, wild animals, mini beasts etc. It would also be good for little ones that are learning animals as they can tell you what they are all called.

Dog really love books so he gets his own bookstore. At first the bookstore is quiet, but his friends all come, and he knows what books to recommend for them all. Its a really nice book, I love books that promote books and reading. My daughter loves books with animals, so this book was right up her street. It was a lovely idea for my book that my daughter loves reading, and I loved dogs point of view on his appreciation for books, the places you can go to read books, and what he loves about them.
