The Rainbow Fish
Author: Marcus Pfister
Mixed review for this one - Personally I love it but my partner teacher can't stand it! I think it's a beautifully illustrated book about sharing with your friends as making others happy will inturn make you feel happy. But on the other hand, there is a dark side of people only being your friend if you give them what they want. The young fish wants a shiny scale and tells all the other fish - 'he didn't give me one' - so they do not speak to the rainbow fish either. The only way the rainbow fish can have anyone speak to him is by giving away his scales. I think it depends on your own experiences of bullying how you relate to this story.

A New Home for a Pirate
Author: Ronda Armitage Illustrator: Holly Swain
My class were very keen on pirates when we got our new pirate ship in the playground. This book is a little treasure. A simple repeating pattern story about Jed the pirate who doesn’t actually want to be a pirate anymore as he gets quite seasick. So he goes off in search of a house that stands still. The story follows his adventure as he helps different characters on his quest to find that perfect house.

The Magic Paintbrush
Author: Julia Donaldson Illustrator: Joel Stewart
A gorgeous book with watercolour illustrations that look oriental and intriging. The rhyming text flows beautifully retelling the old chinese fable of the magic brush. The children had lots of questions and enjoyed finding out more about the Chinese culture and dragons.

Dr Duck
Author: Steve Smallman Illustrator: Hannah George
A fun book about a Duck who is the doctor in the jungle. A feel good book as he is amazing and cures everyone immediately.
