Hetty Feather Series

by
  • (116 reviews)

Set in London in the 1800s, Hetty Feather is just a small baby when her mother leaves her at the Foundling Hospital. The Hospital cares for abandoned children but first Hetty must go to live with a foster family in the countryside until she’s big enough to attend school. When she turns six years old, Hetty’s returned to the Hospital and is secretly reunited with her mother who’s working there. She’s given a beautiful new name, Sapphire Battersea, and she hopes this will also mean a new life! But things don't always go as planned and the books follow the twists and turns of Hetty's adventures including when she goes out to work as a maid for a wealthy man.

Written by bestselling author Jacqueline Wilson and illustrated by Nick Sharratt, the Hetty Feather books are brilliant for older children, who will enjoy reading the stories which are written in the style of a journal. We love the Victorian setting and the feisty but fragile heroines, from Hetty herself to hard-up Clover Moon and sensitive Rose Rivers. All the Hetty Feather characters have to overcome hardship and adversity to follow their own paths.

The books were adapted into a popular CBBC TV show in 2015. CBBC’s Hetty Feather is played by Isabel Clifton and the adaptation has brought the bestselling Jacqueline Wilson books to an even wider audience. You watch Hetty Feather episodes and find more Hetty fun over on the CBBC website.

You can enjoy the books in any order, but we recommend starting with book 1 to understand Hetty’s story. The Hetty feather series is great for readers 9 and over who love mystery stories and children with an interest in history.
