Rufus

Author: Illustrator: Simon Bartram

Rufus is a monster. But he doesn't feel like a Tip-Top monster. Every monster book he's read says that monsters are supposed to scare Peoply People and there aren't any of those in his desert.

Rufus decides that there is only one thing for it. He's going to have to find a Peoply Person to scare. But where in the world are they all hiding?

The bestselling author of Man on the Moon and Bob's Best Ever Friend returns with a new, stink-tastic character.

We loved this story. It made my daughters laugh out loud  They loved spotting the detail in the illustrations on each page as they helped Rufus to find the peopley persons to scare. Rufus is a great character; his 'scariness' is certainly not reflected in how he looks or acts and so the story would appeal to even the most timid of readers. We adored the happy ending and wonder whether Simon Bartram has any other adventures for Rufus planned (we hope so!).

My granddaughter aged two loved this book, despite the fact I thought it was a little old for her.
A delightful story about a monster looking for a Peopley Person to scare. We both enjoyed the illustrations which have lots detail.
Lots of opportunities to develop her vocabulary with unusual words such as werewolf and ghoul, all in a non scary way.

We thought this book was lots of fun, it is similar to the authors previous book 'Bob, the man on the moon' in that there are people to spot in the background that Rufus himself doesn't notice, like Bob and the aliens.

Rufus is a monster who wants to scare people, if only he could find some! He searches high and low but can only find other monsters. The reader however can see that they are people dressed up for a party. My daughter took great delight in pointing out all the people and laughing at how Rufus had missed them.

We liked the end of this story, as it shows that you can be friends with anyone, no matter how different they are to you.
