Mr Silly decides to write a book all about himself, but soon realises without including his friends it would be very dull. My daughter found it very funny that he was writing with a carrot - and I had to explain about "old style" pens which required ink pots that we used when I was young! There's a clever nod to World Book Day with each of Mr Silly's friends shown reading a favourite book - suitable for the character (eg Mr Greedy and a cookery book) but also showing a diversity of books (spells, mysteries, chapter book). The book concludes with Mr Silly "building" a house in the shape of the book, with the text on the inside walls - inviting all his friends to visit - so that they're all physically "in" his book! We chatted about being a character "in" a book and what Mr Silly had done!
Perhaps the highest recommendation for the book - on finishing it Sophie said "I could write a book about me, with my friends Evelyn, Emma and Molly in it......." and wandered off to find some paper and pencils. Mission accomplished.
