Monsters' Nonsense: The Green Gobbler: Practice Phonics with non-words

Author:

Monsters' Nonsense is designed for children to practice decoding nonsense words within a fun and exciting story.
The adult reads the main narrative whilst the child is encouraged to read the monsters' language in speech bubbles. These ` non words' help them practise their emerging phonics skills at a level that is right for them.
Brought to life by award-winning author Peter Bently and Duncan Beedie's comic book style, each story stars one of the monsters cast in a leading role. This series creates a valuable shared reading experience and will inspire any child to become a monster reader!

Read this to my 2 year old, he has delayed speech but had a good go at repeating some of the monster language after me and found it funny. He loved looking at the pictures and pointing at them and the story really caught his attention. It's a good quality hardback book and one will read over again.

This is a fun and colourful book, my little ones loves looking at the monsters and trying to work out what they were saying, they liked the slugmarine and were happy that nid got a new house and that all his monster friends helped him when he needed them. In the back of the book is a couple of pages of things to do with your children once you have read the book which my children liked doing.

This is a great quality hard back book, with very nice illustrations. My little boy enjoyed the story, especially when all the monsters went in the slugmarine. He liked repeating the monstets language, which was good for helping him pronounce his letters. Has some nice idea's in the back, of things to do with your children.

On first reading this alone as a grandparent, I wasn't sure, didn't really get the nonsense phonics idea. However sat quietly with Lucia, 6, and Elijah, 4, after school yesterday & they picked up the book themselves. I was so wrong...I quietly read the main narrative, they called out the speech bubble phonics & loved the idea of "talking Monster language". Somehow the silly words sounded just right coming from the little ones mouths. We were only going to read a few pages before tea, but the story engaged them until the end, a lovely looking hard-back book, delicious illustrations, & a sweet story of friendship between four cute & funny monsters. Even the Green Gobbler wasn't very threatening as he's at the bottom of a Purple Pond & easy to escape from. The children asked to read it again before going home with Mummy & Daddy, Elijah already knows his "sounds" and will be practising the bold-type words I'm sure. Thank you Toppsta, they love this book.

This book had a great story to it, my daughter liked the monsters and loved the thought of marshmallows falling from the sky; especially as the monsters got to eat them. We read the story a few times as she didn't really want to join in the monster's speech. She is very matter of fact ; she said they aren't really words they're silly.  I  explained that she was right and that is how monsters talk, I will try again though as she really did enjoy the story. At the back of the book it gives you lots of advice and guidance to help you encourage your child to participate and read.
