Just So Stories

'This, O my Best Beloved, is a story . . .'

How did the Leopard get his spots? Or the Rhinoceros his skin? How was the Alphabet made? And why does the Cat walk by himself?

Rudyard Kipling's magical, witty Just So Stories is guaranteed to delight, whether you are familiar with the tales or discovering them for the first time.

Being a big fan of Rudyard Kipling as a child I was excited to hire this book from the library and share the stories with the girls. We are a family that love animals so reading about them really excites us!
This book is mad up of lots of stories, ranging from 'How the Camel got his hump' to the Cat that walked Himself'. Each story is beautifully illustrated and is the perfect length, not to long and not to short! The stories are great and are educational at the same time. The different stories lead to lots of questions regarding the different animals and how they live their lives.

Eleanors favourite story was The Elephants child and her favourite charachter was the Hippo! We only managed to read 4 stories from the book so we are off to the Library this morning to renew the book so we can finish it before the end of the school holidays!

A great read and highly reccomended.

We have been reading the just so stories as nice shorter stories, and I had forgotten how enchanting they are. This was one of my favourite books as a child and I have loved reading them to my son. Some of the language is a little old fashioned but this didn't stop us having discussions about the characters and the old words themselves
