This book is fantastic as all sues and Paul's are with brilliant illustrations. My kids couldnt wait to read this when it came and we have read it countless times now. So funny and enjoyable story and illustrations. This book follows cake who has been invited to his first party but cake doesn't have a clue what happens. So off cake goes to find a hat then he goes to the party ....... I won't spoil what happens to cake but definitely recommend this book. My kids have been reading it to everyone who visits us at the minute and we read it at least once a day.

Leo thought this book was fantastic! The story is about a birthday party that Cake has been invited to. Cake hasn't been to a party before and isn't sure what to expect, however he eventually finds a new party hat to wear and arrives at the party. Leo has been to lots of birthday parties before so found it particularly funny when they began to sing Happy Birthday and a 'gust of wind' made everything go black. Make sure not to miss the page at the end - children familiar with party games will find it very funny. Last week Leo took the book to school to share with the other children in his class and said they all really liked it.

We all thought this book was brilliant! Right from the front cover (the sparkles drew her right in). A very funny story of an innocent cake who only wants to enjoy a birthday party, with no idea what happens to cakes at parties! The character of cake is very sweet and likeable and my daughter was quite worried about what would happen to him, luckly it's a happy ending!
The illustrations really made her giggle and she loved the extra bit on the last page, which we missed the first time round.

Sophie read this to herself, it looks bright and colourful and she spent ages carefully going though all the pictures pointing everything out and was laughing along. Poor cake doesn't want to be pudding! thankfully cake is rescued by fellow chums.

Awesome sparkly cover, lovely illustrations, and a fun story means that Cake has become part of our bedtime book rotation. That makes it a winner to me!

When I asked my son his views on Cake he said "nice", "yummy" so I had to explain I meant the book of the same name! We thought this book was absolutely hilarious and have read it several times in 48 hours. I even made an adult visitor read it as it is so amusing. We missed the very last page on the first couple of reads but we love it even more now we have discovered it - I won't spoil the ending here, though! The illustrations are very sweet and there's plenty to chat about - such as which outfit you prefer, which hat you would choose, spotting the party food spies, discussing favourite party games. A huge hit in this house!

The wonderful Sue Linnett and Paul Hendra are back with another unique character. This is such a fun and quirky book. Like most adults have experienced at some time, Cake isn't sure why he's been invited to a party. It seems Cake might have misunderstood the reason behind the invite, fortunately he doesn't end up in the party bags.
The usual fun and funny illustrations and roll along story from this lovable duo. My 6 year old is on the top end of the target age range for this one but immediately asked to read it again, always a good sign.

We're big fans of Sue Hendra thanks to her wonderful 'Supertato' series of books so we couldn't wait to read this story. Cake is very excited as he has been invited to a birthday party. He's never been to one before and can't decide what to wear. Luckily he manages to find the perfect outfit and heads off feeling a little nervous but very excited. Cake enjoys the start of the party but starts to worry when things start to take a strange turn and everyone starts singing. What could possibly happen next?

This book is amazing. The story is very funny with some fantastic characters. We especially liked Cake's best friend Fish. The surprise ending was hilarious and the last page of the book adds an amazing extra twist to the story. The illustrations are fantastic with so much detail on each page. We would definitely recommend reading this book a few times as each time we read the story we found more details and characters hiding that we had missed before. A brilliant book!

Cake is adorable! He has been invited to a party and is so excited to go. He's never been to a birthday party before and he doesn't know what to expect. Cake begins to wish he wasn't at the party when his hat begins to burn due to the candles on it! Superbly written, funny and great for both kids and adults alike.

We always love Sue Hendra's books and this was no exception! The book was bright and my 4 year old son thought it was really funny. There are lots of surprises and it was good for my son who learning to read as he could read many if the words. I think this would be a great birthday present given the central character is a birthday cake!
