From number one bestselling author Matt Haig comes a hilarious and heartwarming story, brilliantly illustrated throughout by Chris Mould

'Wherever she is, whatever the day,
She only has one kind of thing to say.
Just as cats go miaow and cows go moo,
The Truth Pixie can only say things that are true.'

A very funny and lovable tale of how one special pixie learned to love herself. The Truth Pixie is an enchanting, rhyming story that will delight younger readers - with words by the bestselling mastermind Matt Haig and pictures by the inky genius Chris Mould.

I am a huge fan of Matt Haig and love the connection between the Truth Pixie and his series of books about Christmas; The Boy Called Christmas, The Girl who saved Christmas and Father Christmas and Me.

The Truth Pixie did not ask for this “gift” but she must learn to live with it.....and so she leads a solitary life. Until a fateful encounter with a troll....and a meeting with a sad girl.

We all have days when we wish we could speak the truth...and the Pixie has days when she wishes she couldn’t but her heartfelt words strike a chord with the girl and with the reader....they could almost be part of a growing up guide! A how to guide for all of us still finding their paths in life.

Life is hard, there will be change “But you’ll never know happy unless you know sad”. Just brilliant!

I love that the book is told in rhyme and it can be read and enjoyed by all ages! I loved it and both my children loved it.  It is being sent off to a family who I know will also love it!

An absolute diamond of a book.  Matt Haig does it again!  I have read all the reviews of this book and I couldn't wait to read it.  Sometimes it is hard for a book to live up to the hype but The Truth Pixie not only lives up to it but surpasses it.  From it's fab illustrations to the rhyming and not forgetting the life lessons.  I can't wait to share this with my class after half term.  All I can say is try to get hold of this book, buy it or borrow it, it is an absolute delight to read and will make you think and realise that it is ok to be different.

The rhyming tale of the Truth Pixie is thought provoking. The rhythm and rhyme of the story assists in emotional aspect of this charming book (with amazing illustrations). We read this during book club and it left us with so much to discuss. The children wondered why it was a problem being the truth pixie - but during the story were empathetic with her. While most of us do tell the truth, we did discuss the need to sometimes bend the truth to be kind and not hurt people’s feelings. A great little book with an important message about friendship.

This is an incredible book. Matt Haig has written beautifully about mental health for adults and this is a perfect, fictionalised
version of these books for children. The 'Truth Pixie' finds it hard that she always has to tell the truth and the story shows how she uses this for good when she helps a young girl with a lot of worries. I found that I wanted to reread soon after I'd finished and also enjoyed the audiobook version, read by Matt Haig.  I can't wait to share this with my class.

I really enjoyed this book because it was beautifully told and illustrated. It is about a pixie who was cursed to only tell the truth. My favorite character is Maarta the mouse who lives in the pixies hair. She is my favorite character because she is very small and funny. I think there is a message saying that you have to feel sadness to feel happiness. I would recommend it to people in the age category of 8-11/.

Rose (8) read this book alone first, then I read it aloud to Clara (6)

We all loved it. It’s perfect for reading in a single sitting & both girls are looking forward to reading it again.

As a fan of Matt Haigs book How to Stay Alive, I loved the way he presented such a strong message of hope in such a positive and accessible way to young children ☺️

I remember my daughter was so excited to hear that the Truth Pixie was having her own book...having featured in the Matt Haig/Chris Mould’s Christmas trilogy...

The wait is over...having been reading reviews for the last few weeks, we were so pleased with our book post today!

Firstly, the illustrations are stunning throughout...and the story told in rhyme is a delight...the first half focuses on the negatives of her ‘situation’ , the curse of only speaking the truth! The second half, her realisation that there are positives in everyone’s life because there are two sides/versions to everything...day and night, happy and sad, hot and cold.  Without one, you can’t truly appreciate or experience the other...

All children should experience this book...and read these beautiful lines of truth “life might not go as it should, But you are young and your life will be magic, It will be happy and funny and sometimes tragic.”

This is one of my favourite stories I’ve read recently and I’ve been telling my fellow teachers about it.
My 6 year daughter got this for Christmas and I have now read it a few times to her and her brother; she’s also chosen to read it herself. I’ve recently shared it also with my y4 class who were all engrossed.
A lovely, rhyming story with a message which is accompanied by gorgeous illustrations and eye catching text on some pages. It’s one of those books that leaves you a little choked up in a good way. Highly recommend for any age!

Wherever she is, whatever the day, She only has one kind of thing to say. Just as cats go miaow and cows go moo, The Truth Pixie can only say things that are true.
After coming across the character of the Truth Pixie in Matt Haigs trilogy of Christmas books I eagerly awaited the release of this book.
The wait did not have me disappointed at all. This tiny treasure is told in a rhyming story which was beautifully executed and well handled.
The story is for younger children but I'd argue adults will love this and learn too it carries an important message of acceptance, friendship and self confidence.
This little pixie can only tell the truth and she feels it's a curse till she meets Aada a sad little girl but the truth pixies truth turns out to be a blessing for them both.
This book is outstanding many adults who have read it say as a child they would have got so much from this book and I couldn't agree more. I read this after losing my Mum who passed away suddenly and I will admit this book made me cry but in a good way.

One quote said
There will be people you love who can’t stay forever , there will be things you can’t fix even though you are clever

This was so true my Mum had died she couldn't stay forever but even though I'm clever I can't fix this.
This book was made for adults to read to their children together and I've heard now that adults are keeping the books and carrying it with them.
It's a small book with a very big punch . Chris Moulds illustrations are marvellous as ever and the candy cane striped spine is just so cute.
This book I bought for myself and it will remain with me to reread over and over again.
A well deserved 5 stars.

Holly loved this story and learnt from it too. It made her think about how she worries about things at times.
She now wants the other Matt Haig books.

I liked the book because it had rhyming throughout the whole book which i didnt expect but it made it good. There was very few words on each page so it didnt take long to read which i also enjoyed because it allowed me to understand the meaning of the story. The characters are all different, some are funny, some are a bit nasty, and some are sad but in the end its all happy which is good. I would describe this book an adventure of emotions and I love the drawn pictures featured alot throughout the book. This book made me feel as though you should be more honest with people even though sometimes the truth is good and sometimes it is bad.

Like other reviewers I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this book, and read it in one sitting as soon as was possible. Matt Haig writes amazing mental health books for adults (not your usual kind of self-help books) and fantastic children's books. So this is a great combination of both. As a parent of an anxious child, this book I hope will provide support and guidance, and a little bit of knowing you are not alone with such feelings. I would also add that perhaps this book is not just for children, and can offer hope, consolation and wisdom to adults too.

I will not read this to my children just yet, as we are fortunate to have tickets to a reading by Matt Haig himself. So I will update my review with my children's thoughts once they have heard it.

Highly recommended, and one that will hopefully be a touchstone of support for my children.

“Utterly wondrous… a story for everyone. Matt is a mastermind. The Truth Pixie is the perfect present – not just for Christmas – but for all year round. My book of the year!”

The Truth Pixie is something else. I hope that the something else is conveyed in my following words…

The Truth Pixie is the kind of story that will make you think over and over about its naturally moving qualities because you can’t help but be captivated by its witty and acutely accurate rhyming couplets that shine a light on being self-aware and feeling at one with yourself.

Telling lies is often seen as the worst thing in the world as it gets you in to the worst kind of trouble, yes? We all know the stories; Pinocchio for instance. But what happens when the only thing you can do is tell the truth and that ends up with you landing you in all kinds of trouble too? Hmm….

The Truth Pixie begins to find out for herself as she suffers the wrath of her darned curse with loss of friends and lingering in loneliness being the worst kind of trouble for her.

But the story really comes into its own in its latter half due to its attentiveness, its sheer sense of uniqueness and its loveable quirkiness.

Appreciation, contentment, warmth, tenderness and a sense of connectedness all feature within its pages in the wonderful words and illustrations of this timely, thoughtful tale.

This is helped by the perceptiveness within the most perfect of partnerships in Matt and Chris who reunite to bring to life the most magnificent of stories.

If you think that A Boy Called Christmas, The Girl Who Saved Christmas and Father Christmas and Me were good, then you can only imagine how good The Truth Pixie is when I say it’s utterly wondrous… Matt is a mastermind.

Overall, I feel that the book is best summed by the four lines that have been most recently widely shared on social media:

‘There will be people you love,
Who can’t stay for ever,
And there will be things you can’t fix,
Although you are clever.’

All in all, this is a beautifully-told blend of poetry, rhyme and imaginative storytelling in its finest form that’s essential reading for children, but it is so much more than that as it is a story for everyone. Ultimately, we are people and we are all humans and in essence, this is what this story is truly about; being human.

If you don’t have a copy of The Truth Pixie in your classroom, your school or your home, you’re definitely missing out.

Mark my words, this may be marketed and sold under the branch of children’s literature but there is so much to be admired, to be reflective of and to be learned from books like this for both children and adults alike. This is an absolute gem that will find its rightful place and resonate not only within its readers’ minds but also deep within their hearts.

This book is the perfect present – not just for Christmas – but for all year round.

I'd heard a lot of good things about this book but wasn't sure whether my kids were of an age to enjoy it (they're 7 and 10). So... I borrowed it from the library and read it to the in one sitting. The first half of the book mainly sets the scene giving the back story so that we get to know the truth pixie's character. When the truth pixie meets a child, that's when we start to see the part of the story that carries the positive messages that this book is known for. My children listened to the whole story and acknowledged the messages that came through in the second half, but they didn't think it was an amazing story (which is why I've given 4 stars and not 5). I do, however, think the book would be perfect for any child going through a hard time.

I'm a big fan of Matt Haig's books for adults so I was keen on reading this book.
I immediately liked the rhyming format of the story. It is not trying to be too clever, but rather works on the same level as the children it is aimed at.
The story itself is also something that many children will relate to, fitting in and making friends as well as being true to oneself.
I thought the pictures worked really well to support the message of the words, the Truth Pixie looking a bit like an awkward teenager trying to hide away in her massive good.
I'm now looking forward to meeting her again in "The Girl That Saved Christmas" which is on my to read pile.
