Blast off alongside space expert Sarah Cruddas on a journey through space exploration history, from the Apollo Moon landings to mind-boggling plans for living on Mars. How did we land on the Moon? What will the space jobs of the future look like? And why did we send a car to space? The Space Race answers all of the big questions that kids have about space travel. Sarah Cruddas brings to life the hidden stories behind the most famous space missions, before taking the reader on a journey through our space future. This children's book includes a foreword by NASA astronaut Eileen Collins , the first woman to command a Space Shuttle mission. It also includes fascinating insights from Sarah's interviews with real-life astronauts including Apollo 17's Eugene Cernan and Virgin Galactic Test Pilot Kelly Latimer . Space-mad kids will delight in the detail, photographs and information on each page, and will love seeing intricate diagrams of iconic spaceships, Moon cars and space suits created by artist Mark Ruffle. Propelled by recent scientific discoveries and printed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing, The Space Race is an essential children's handbook to understanding every aspect of the history, and future, of human space travel.

This is the perfect addition to any school library. It has so many interesting facts about space and is written in a really accessible way, so that primary children can enjoy using it to research 'The Space Race'. The photographs are stunning and we liked the variety of ways in which the book presents its facts. There is so much to enjoy and the book moves from the 60s to the present day really well.

This is such a wonderful book for any Space enthusiasts. It's starts with how we took to the air by putting animals in a hot air balloons, to the Wright brothers and then leading to the Space race. It has facts about the countries competing to get a man on the moon. It has so many facts about Space in small bitesize chunks that my kids can grasp. My kids found it fascinating and loved all the photos. My girl is really into History at the moment and she loved this book. It's a wonderful book and I would highly recommend it.

As my son said: "Real cool book, the cover and the pictures are so amazing!". This is really a great book to have for all ages and we loved how it's setup so even younger kids can enjoy it, since it has the text in sections that aren't long and lots of lovely pictures. Also it doesn't show only the history of space, but shows how the inventions evolved in terms of flight and then going into space. It also has a great section of the future of space exploration, which isn't very common in space books! Recommend this as a go to book about space.

This book is amazing! It is almost 200 pages filled with interesting and wonderful facts about Space Travel. The pictures are amazing and add to the excitement of the book.
We read the book in chunks over a few nights due to the length and dense information. Both children were excited to read it each evening and spent the next day talking about it and asking further questions on space and space travel.
My son said his favourite photo is of the footprint on the moon and he is saving up his money to buy a trip in a space rocket when he is older.
This a must have for the family book collection.

Such an amazing book! Stuff full of absolutely everything about mankind's space travel from the very beginning. My daughter spent a long time poring over it, it's hugh! We love the pages about women in space, and women who made space travel possible. It's very easy to dip into and read different parts, lots of colour pictures made it very inviting. Perfect for any space enthusiast!
