A brilliantly funny and brightly colourful story perfect for Steves everywhere. When Steve meets Steve, neither can believe it. Surely one of them must be the first Steve, the best Steve, the Stevest Steve . . . The claims of each puffin become sillier and sillier as the argument descends into name-calling - until both Steves realize there's really no need to fall out over a name. The feuding puffins perfectly reflect the sort of silly arguments children have - and The Steves shows just how pointless they are. The bold, brilliantly coloured, graphic illustrations will have you laughing out loud in this glorious book from Morag Hood, creator of the hilarious Colin and Lee, Carrot and Pea, Aalfred and Aalbert and author of Sophie Johnson: Unicorn Expert.

A lovely book that is full of bright pictures. Every page was very colourful which my daughter loved. A lovely way to show children not to squabble and just be friends instead. Theirs a fact page at the back of the book on puffins which my daughter enjoyed listening to. She loves hearing facts on animals.

We really enjoyed this book. In my boys voice: it was funny, silly and then there was one Steve, then two and then it was so funny when there was three. My girl thought it was funny and loved it when the word Poo came up.

This is a beautiful looking book - bright, bold, simple colours that are very appealing. It's a funny story about two puffins, both called Steve. Although it's simple it's still clever and there's a funny twist when another Steve turns up. My four-year-old thought it was hilarious and I liked it too - it was a fun one to read together.

This is a good book because it is very funny. There are two Puffins who are both called Steve and they fight about who is the first Steve and the best Steve. They say funny things about each other and they are a bit mean as well. The pictures are very good and I really liked the bright yellow pages. I liked the ending too.

I read it to Pre-schoolA aged 2 to 4

The Steve's is a fantastic story about two puffins Steve and Steve who both want to be the best and only Steve. I love that this story is based on two puffins of the same name as it's an unusual subject for a book but so relatable for the children as we at Pre-School have so many children with the same names and it can get very confusing and frustrating for them, I think our best is Jack's of which we have 5 all of which who may be there on the same day! Some of the children did recognise it was like them and other child of the same name but it also made the other children think how they were lucky they didn't know anyone of the same name. They loved seeing the puffins having there discussion / argument over which puffin was best and were giggling away as the reasons got sillier and sillier which reminded me a lot of the things children bring into the arguments which from an adults perspective are such nonsense and irrelevance! Some of the children also noticed how the puffins were feeling throughout the book which is great as it gave us a chance to look at how some words can hurt others and make them upset even if they are meant to be silly. The end of the book is fantastic and a twist I didn't even expect coming, didn't take the children long to work out who it was which shows how much they were enjoying the book to work that out! The illustrations in the book are brilliant, with such brightly coloured pictures but a really simple layout to the pages which made it easy for the children to focus on the puffins and words being read. We loved the puffins as characters and as we can sometimes see puffins near where we live the children recognised that they were puffins and it was nice to see a more unusual animal for a change. The puffin facts at the end of the book are a brilliant addition to the book and not something I expected but it was great to learn a bit more about puffins. We loved this book, it is a fantastic story that kept the children giggling throughout at such a funny and relatable story!

We loved this book. My 6 year old and I read it together- each being a different Steve. She enjoyed making up a voice for her part. A great book for looking at a number of themes- friendship, competitiveness and resolving arguments.

A fab and funny book made all the better by Daddy being called Steve! Two puffins arguing about who is the first Steve, the Steveish Steve. They soon realise that there's no need to fight, they can both be Steve!! But then along comes another puffin called .....

We loved 'The Steves. The cover is awesome (and reminded me of The Mitchells from Eastenders!) It's bright, really funny and has a great message about friendship. It genuinely made us laugh and is definitely one that we will read again!

Beautiful  illustrations and a funny story about two puffins with the same name but I didn't like the reference to smelling like poo which is a shame as otherwise I'd have given 5 stars.
