"A vibrant, viewpoint-flipping picture book" Guardian

Praise for Hoot Owl, Master of Disguise: "This is the funniest picture book I have read in a long time" David Walliams

From the team behind the acclaimed Hoot Owl, Master of Disguise comes a very scary read-aloud story ... or is it? Monster wants to be in a scary story - but is he brave enough? Scary stories have creepy witches and creaky stairs and dark hallways and spooky shadows... Oh my goodness me! That is very scary. Maybe a funny story would be better after all? Brilliantly interactive, children will delight in the wickedly funny turns-of-the-page, see themselves in the goofy, unconventional monster, and revel in the bold, hilarious illustration of celebrated graphic artist, Jean Jullien.

This is a lovely book that I sat done and read to my grand daughter who is 2,the characters are really fun to get in to making all the sounds of being scared
It is also written in such a way that it wont be long before my other grand daughter who is 4 and just started school and learning to read will be able to read along with me.
The children loved pointing out various items on each page. It is definitely a book that can be enjoyed time and time again (not just at halloween)

We loved the bright bold illustrations I'm this lovely book. It was a perfect read over the Halloween period as it tackles some of the fears that children have in a way that's pitched perfectly for younger readers. It's a great addition to our bookshelf and has already become a favourite!

This book is sooooo much fun and my family loved every minute of it. The book reads as if you, the reader, are the narrator and Little Monster is talking to you. The Little Monster is very amusing. He wants to be in a scary story but it would seem he is scared of everything.
The images are bright and colourful - perfect book for this time of year!!

We are so glad this book has arrived just days before Halloween as it is an ideal book for this time of year.
This book is funny and my son  loved reading it out around.
The Little Monster is very fun and the images are big and bright.

My kids enjoyed this but didn’t love it, and they haven’t asked for it to be read for the last few days.  My daughter (2) loved the witch and the ghost and was pointing at them telling me what they were.  It’s a fun book but does take some performance on the part of the parent!  The pictures are sweet and colourful.  Not one for children who scare easily (although then I doubt you’d buy them a book with this title anyway!!).

Aw this is kind of cute!  Little monster wants to be in a scary story - but perhaps not too scary!  As he is given various options for the story he tones them down until he finds something that he's comfortable with.  So is little monster really that scared or just pretending?  You'll need to read it to find out! Full of fun, bold illustrations it's a perfect quick read for bedtime at Halloween and a perfect opportunity for everyone to practise shouting "BOO" together

This book is a great size, although the paper quality doesn’t feel the greatest and wasn’t the easiest for my toddler to turn pages either.
The story is written as a dialogue, much like a parent to a child. This instantly makes it relatable to the reader.
The character ‘little monster’, wants to be in a scary story, so this book unravels as you hear of little monster’s story.
The illustrations are simple, some are quite dark for younger children but they are not sinister.
My baby liked to hear me read and enjoyed the brighter pictures, however my toddler found the book very funny!

We were excited that this arrived just in time for Halloween and read it as a bedtime story. The book reads as a dialogue between the narrator and little monster. The little monster wants to be in a scary story but then it finds things too scary. My 5 year old enjoyed this very much, he thought it funny however my 3 year old wasn’t very engaged in it, I think because although I tried to do two different voices, he found it hard to know which character was talking. The illustrations and lay out is good but I felt the pages weren’t good quality and hard to turn for small children.

We read this book around Halloween so it fitted in nicely with the spooky theme. My daughter doesn't like witches at all and there are a few scary witches in it which put her off a bit. The narrative is a conversation between the narrator and the monster which is a little bit difficult to keep going and for the child to follow (despite me impressing myself with my monster voice). Overall though it just didn't completely grab us. It was too complicated with the different voices and at the same time the story didn't keep us interested. It's a shame as the idea is good but it just didn't work for us - might be better for an older child who is reading it themselves.
